The new guy
Well I thought i should probably introduce myself and not be rude.
My name is Kevin, i am a student (fourth year) at the University of Pittsburgh. I was majoring in Electrical Engineering, but then decided i didn't want to do that for the rest of my life so i picked up a double major in Business and Music. The story behind my being here is kinda complicated. The SVX is actually my girlfriend's car. She wrecked her escort a month ago, and needed a new car. Well my mind works very diferently than most. Instead of taking her out to look at escorts and such, I took her love for porsches, Ferraris and other exotics and used that as a guide to find her a car. I'm sure you would all understand how i ended up at the SVX. Bottom line is, with a porsche engine and a body that's a dead ringer for a lotus esprit, but a price more like the trans am or camaro, it's perfect for her. I showed her a picture and she was set on getting one of these machines. We found one rather quickly, due to the miracle of the internet, and picked it up two weeks ago. Thus begins the saga of the first non-american car to join TeamRAGE. I feel it's a worthy competitor to our other members. Our team so far consists of my Pontiac GTP, a Ford Thunderbird, a 1st generation Camaro (400hp!!!), and a brand new Chevy Silverado Z71. Those vehicles are all well underway to becoming absolute works of art. First our SVX will need some minor mechanical work (i believe a rear end bearing is ready to give) and reportedly now there is oil leaking from the crankshaft? (this is what my girl told me that some mechanic told her so who knows how true it is) so i will have to check that one out. But we will get her running perfect, then comes a new paint job. Only then will the fun begin. Who knows where the road to the perfect SVX will lead? It will be fun though. I found this forum to be friendly and very informative and i will be posting my questions, answers, and tips often as our project unfolds. There will be a TeamRAGE site launched this spring, with pictures, stories, specs, track times, etc. for all our cars. For the time being, i will try to get some pictures in my personal locker. |

We're here to help each other and have some fun, so, make yourself at home. I'll help point you in the correct directions for answers to your questions -- in fact, everyone here is very accommodating. Tell your GF to sign on and join in the fun. We try to keep it "a family show" although sometimes we err. Take care and visit often.

Kevin,
Welcome to the Network. Glad to have another eager mind to deal with. Look forward to seeing the pics. There seem to be alot of meets in your area. Look them up and go. I am a west coaster and I very rarely see another SVX although they are out here. Just not by me. Maybe I'll see you at the 10th Aniv meet next year. Ciao Wayne |

Kevin, welcome to the network.
I'd agree with Randy - the 'perfect' SVX rolled off the assembly line and is in my garage, bone-stock. That's not to say I totally frown upon modification of the car - I just won't do it. If you describe the noise or symptom you are experiencing, we could help you with a diagnosis. As for an oil leak, my '93 SVX leaks a little from the crank seal. If you replace it in conjunction with a timing belt replacement, it only adds $25 or so to the cost. Again, welcome, and enjoy your SVX.

Welcome
Kevin
I to would just like to say welcome. As for the mods I have done some things and then undone most. I am starting to find that the car was built to be perfect, other then the tranny. However good luck, and I look forward to seeing the picts. Once again welcome. Chris |

Welcome
Welcome to the net Shadow248. Good to see another PA guy onboard. Your girlfriend is going to love her SVX. I hope hers will be as trouble free and enjoyable as mine has been.
