Rust

I had a little rust around the right rear wheel well. The lady who owned the car before me had a small accident and it was not repaired in the best possible way. When I had my car repainted after my daughter drove my SVX under a chain link fence I had it repaired with a fiber glass patch. The old metal was treated with a rust inhibitor. Since I plan on keeping the SVX till my last breath,i'll probably find out how well it work's. Take care, BOBB

living in the sw

really has some advantages.....
not a spec of rust luckily on my pearl car, it
was a Ca/Az car its whole life....
I had another Svx that had some little bubbles on
around the wheelwell, but underneath it was
drastic. Every bolt was toasted, and the
rear upper spring mounts had rusted thru completely..
made it too hard to work repair things, needless to say
...it ended up as a parts car.
(didnt have a good title anyway....)

The R&T guide says that the body panels are all galvanised. Does anybody know if that's true, or just another R&T myth?

My 95 has no rust whatsoever as the previous owner apparently kept it garaged. I have no garage at the moment, so I'm going to rent a storage space just to keep in nice when I'm not driving it. ( I would never do this with another car)......My 92 Loyale on the other hand.....well lets just say the oil leak keeps the bottom from rusting out, but I'm getting little rust specs here and there on the surface from last winter's salt. I have one hole a bit larger than a 50 cent piece on the lower portion of the body in front of the left rear wheelwell that I'm going to fix with some POR 15. This thing's gotta last me...I'm shooting for 300k with it.

Rust

Oil leaks are definately good! As are exploding CV joints when it comes to rust protection .

Hey Bobby I found another RX (its on the other side of Harrisburg). I'm looking at it tonight for a guy on the USMB but can float you the info if its cheap too! Moosens said about canablizing it next weekend during the Carlisle Import Show but it definately looked in much better shape than the one in Denver.

No body rust, though some of the clamps and bolts under the car look pretty sketchy!

Rust around the gas cap (looks like I'm the first to post this one), and on the front right wheel well, the latter having just appeared recently.

Both doors have rust where the top of the plastic door skirt meets the door. I hope to get it fixed in the next couple months. The underbody has significant surface rust. Initially, I thought there was too much rust underneath, but I've only had a few problems with rusted bolts, and I've disassembled quite a bit of the underside of the car.

Not sure I would want to sandblast a fender.Even with low pressure it will probably warp it.

Mine has been in PA all of it's life and also has no rust at all.

Depends on what you blast it with. Supposedly walnut shells are the new thing.... they don't strip as harshly but it doesn't warp anything.

No rust anywhere, except a little place on the front left fender where the lower clading wore through the paint.

That's with 155k and a hard life (before I got it )

Then it would not be sandblasting now would it. I specifically meant using sand as a media.
You are correct on the walnut shells though. There are other media's that they use also, like baking soda and corn cob, although the corn cob is used mostly in industrial and wooden building applications.
