What is this thing?

I found this on top of my engine, kind of under the throttle body.
Important?

I don't recognize it, but I would need to have a little more information about it. Was it loose, or was it attached? That would help, and another picture at a different angle might help.

It isn't off your snowboard is it?

I know what it is.

That is the cover for the opening that allows acess to the flexplate / torque converter bolts. The opening is on the top, rear of the block, passenger side.

Good luck trying to get to stay there.

I have seen two of these, both laying on top of the engine block and they were both as hard as rock and I think smaller in size than original, too small to stay in place.

Do you need it? I think you can do without it. Yours has most likely been laying up on top of the engine for 10's of thousands of miles just like on all the other SVX's.

It should not be a problem as long as you keep your fingers out the hole when the engine is running.

John

Good thing you warned us, John! I was wondering what that hole was and Lord knows I like to stick my fingers into holes. You saved me a lot of pain!

Thank you John!

Wow! thanks for the reply, John.

It didn't really LOOK Subaru. I too though it could be a piece of my snowboard!

P.S. Snowboarding was GREAT this weekend! The trees, the powder... The Subaru was nice too.

Hey, am with svx_commuter on this...not really a critical part, BUT after having car parked outside for a couple of months I noticed that was a favorite place for the mice to nest...can't imagine what they could get in there that would be catastrophic but it made me wonder!!!!

Still left it off though.

I too recognised the part immediately as I have also found it lying loose on my engine. We used some black silicone to hold it in place. It might still be there on my car but I haven't checked. I'm not worried as it has probably been off for a while.
