Two 4ws SVX's in Sydney!!

Just thought I would say that in addition to FREESTYLERS 4ws SVX, there is now another one (brought in as a personal import from NZ) and which...is.....FOR SALE!!!

I have spoken to the seller and will be going to see the car next week (perhaps a substitute for a canary yellow one ) but I have told him about the club and he is as fanatical about the car as we are.

If he joins, welcome!!! Also, he said that would have no objections to me taking some photos of the car so that our US friends could get some close up shots of the 4ws mechanism.

Regards

James

I suppose you'll be taking the photos while you're out for a test drive, eh? So, since it isn't the "dreaded color that I will not mention," what color is it . . . um, "colour," sorry.

Its silver on the roof and large % of the body with grey on the bottom - rest assured that it will be the usual 'hanging out window driving with toes on steering wheel' that characterises most of my SVX photos!

A pranged 4WS is being broken up here for parts. Mine is not a 4WS as I made very sure of this when I purchased it.

Hi Trevor

Do you know how much of the car is being broken up (ie, was it a whole car or a half cut) and is it close to where you are??? Depending on prices, it may be useful to get parts.

Thanks

James

I have not been in touch with the owner for a month or two. He pranged it in an off road excursion and it was written off by his insrance co. and he bought it back with the idea of selling it for spares. It does not appear that bad, crunched side front, but he says the body/chassis is out of line.

I mentioned in a post some time ago that this car was available. There is also parts from another in a loclal wreckers stock which I have taken advantage of when mine was broken into and the door lock damaged. There could be others in other places.

Do you mean that you intentionally avoided 4WS SVXs?

If so, why?

Shouldn't be speaking for Trevor, he already has too much to say for hisself, but I will offer a guess. I picked up on the comment when reading, and was not surprised.

The Japanese stopped making them in 94 I think for two reasons. One, the obvious cost/complexity thing, which led them to offer 2wd as the cars were not selling in the numbers they would like. Second reason I picked up from Paddles, they were unloved by the buying public. System gave trouble, and cost a lot to fix.

Back in early 1990s, same thing happened with Honda Accords. Top of the range had 4ws, if you tried to trade in, they asked you what model, and said no thanks, don't want your car. The trade is very fickle on complexity. If they don't understand it/can't fix it, they won't want it and second hand values plummet.

Good news you have your car back on road.

Joe
