Replacement Hood Stays or Struts
I need to repalce my hood stays or struts, and I have found them at subaruparts.com. They are close to $ 70.00 each. Are there any suggestions on another place that would be less expensive. I don't want to get them from the bone yard because I would probably be replacing them again in a year or so. Just thought I would check before I bought them online. I'm not cheap - just thrifty - or is it I'm not thrifty - just cheap!
Oh well!! Like they always say - It's not the principle - it's the money! Thanks in advance. Earl

stays
I ordered them today from subaruparts.com and they were 67.55 each. I too decided to bite the bullet. I didn't want to mess around with used ones. It will be worth it to be able to lean under the hood and not get the feeling of being eaten by my own car. Thanks for the relpy.

Stopped by Discount Auto Parts here in Florida. Picked up a couple of items called "Shur-Lock"s. Theya re plastic "locks" that have a thumb screw on the side. It stays in the rod and you simmply slide it up when the hood is open and tighten the thumb screw. A $3.99 temporary safety solution. Randy (Keepin' the hood of'n ma head) ii |

I got my first "loving head tap" last night as I was cleaning my battery terminal. Hope the cold weather is to blame.....

Tough call, does one pony up 130 coconuts for new struts, $5 for a small pair of vise-grips (to clamp around dysfunctional strut when open) or rip off wifey's broom and saw off the handle to the correct length? Maybe nab the hood prop rod from a wayward Justy while the owner's head is turned?

I found a broom handle that adjusts in length when turned 1/4 turn that had the broom head broken off. It adjusts from 24" and then expands to a length that holds the hood all of the way up.
I really hate to give someone else my coconuts.

I frequently lay tools around the perimeter of the engine bay. I haven't "slipped up" yet, with my SVX. I did, however, drop the hood on my 1980 Mercury Capri RS Turbo once, only to discover that I had left a screwdriver on the inside edge, which bound the latch so tightly, I didn't think I'd ever get it open. I wound up have to pull up on the hood, stick a long scredriver in the space and pounding the other screwdriver out by whacking the handle of the long screwdriver with the palm of my hand. I hate when that happens.

battery
Hmm... I havent replaced the battery ever, it's a Diehard, is that the battery that came from the factory or did the previous owner replace it?
The battery size is not the problem though, because I had no trouble before. Of course, if it has been replaced, you maybe right and it is sitting higher, though it seems to fit perfectly. It happened after I replaced the battery terminals, because the originals were very loose. Subaru sure doesnt leave a lot of leeway concerning the wiring for the battery. Had a heckuva time making it fit!
