SVX's are pimped

New member here, planning on getting an SVX in the coming weeks, THEY ARE BEAUTIFUL!

Went to check out the first in my area, ouch that one was hurting, seriously sad to see one in that bad of shape. Rediculous price too.... found it on an add in buysell.com $9995cdn for a pearlie '92 there, over priced but i wanted to see one anyways, checked it out (10,295 on the sticker price nice false advertisement)
-188000km(about 110k-120k miles) not THAT bad for a '92
-no transmission cooler(almost a required for me to buy)
-brake rotors not drilled and slotted(ditto)
-some very minor paint flaws, scratchs maybe dirt
-the latch on the center console looked broken(is it supposed to not have any latch or button or anything)

now my friend who i went with is currently taking a autobody course to become a detailer, he says the car was probably in an accident or something because the levels in the front were completely off, the hood seemed off center, and the passenger door seemed a bit off as well. All speculation but he did have some knowledge in the area some i trust his opinion.

The WORST part about the car though, the dealership had no info about its history, matainence, # of previous owners, accident reports, nothing... sucks.

The salesman was funny, knows NOTHING about this car, typical used car salesman, one of the first things i ask him, "do you know much about this car," his reply, " ya i do," then "its fast, runs great, engine is in excellent condition, and its a fast sports car."
I start asking him about the stuff listed above, he didn't even know what i was talking about, it was great when i started telling him what i was asking about.

Well all in all that one was probably not worth half the sticker price, but i love SVXs all the same, just have to find the one for me. Worst part abou my location, vancouver canada, CAR COST TOO MUCH HERE, basically all i have to do is go across the border into bellingham or something, the exact same condition car is worth $3k, maybe $4k US, but then i gotta deal with customs and all that crap.

Well to end my first post, I would like to ask a question, has anyone bought an SVX from across the border, Im wondering about customs prices and such, i have heard upto 20% of the cost I payed for taxes coming into the country, but how would it work if for some amazing reason i could convince a seller to come up here to sell his SVX, would he have to pay customs, would I, or would it be the perfect way to bypass that hassel? Also wondering if there are any vancouver SVXers around here willing to sell something that has been babied, willing to pay upto $7kcdn in the near future(maybe 2 weeks to a couple months) , a resonable price, thats what a '92 sold for up in a coquitlam dealership recently and it was in GOOD condition, im just I missed it by 2 days

I don't know if having a seller go up there would really help you or not. Since it would still be a US title being transfered to Canada you would still have to pay. What you might be able to do is have an american friend purchase the car and then gift it to you. Then it really wouldn't matter what the duty % was because any % of $0 is still $0.
I don't know if that would work or not but its at least an option to explore.

I don't think that would work. I know here that the tax and other paperwork is based on the (high) Blue Book no matter what you payed for it.

CDG brought one into Canada from the States. You could check with him about it. PM or email him and he is from the Vancover area. Good luck.

Hmm might run up my costs a little over what im willing to spend though, air travel up here is insanely expensive and any other way seems a little unfeesable, mainly because he wants that in usd I think ill keep my eyes open for one locally for now, ill check back on that one when im ready to buy.

I think he posted the cost in USD because most of us are from the US. So he was trying to get the price that would be true for the most people. I'm sure he would take Cdn, just drop him a private message, and see if you could work something out. Hot shoe really took care of his SVXes, he just beat the crap out of his 3000gt VR4s

Yeah im thinking about it but its just out of my price range 5750 usd = about 7900cnd depending on the day:P, by itself not that big of an issue but getting out there will cost another grand. It will be in the back of my mind as i check out local SVXs though, if its the best im gonna find for the cheapest ill probably look into travel out there (maybe greyhound it or something)
