Subaru FX-9 concept?

i was killing time at the bookstore the other day and reading this "Concept Cars" coffee table book, and saw a Subaru concept car called the FX-9 (or F-X9?)
it looked like the precursor to the SVX, but it was a lot wilder/weirder than the SVX concept. i've searched the entire interweb, but can't find a pic. anyone have a pic, or even heard of this thing? i know i never saw it or even heard about it before. i'll have to go back and get more info on it.

You can see it in the background of a photo in the R&T guide.

The FX-9 is one of my answers to Rob's 'Giugiaro had nothing to do with the SVX's styling' assertion.

I mean, come on, that think looks like it was designed in the 50s...in Detroit...with a sign in front of it reading 'Amazing Atomic-Powered Car!.'

i do remember it looking very "Flash Gordon."

it just seemed odd that i couldn't find a picture of it with Google or Alta Vista. Subaru must have tried to cover up that sucker!

I don't think it was 'covered up' - I just don't think it was publicized like other Subaru concepts. I'm sure that all manufacturers come up with concepts that never see the light of day.

Yes, I am the god of !

Here is a pic for those, like myself, who wanted to see this creature. It's a bit small but pics of it are very rare indeed. Enjoy!

I don't really care about that concept, but I'm waiting patiently for this one (originally to debut on the Baja/ST-X):

no, they ARE Subaru. i'm not sure where STi and SPT fit together, but you can now get SPT performance parts at (some?) Subaru dealers.

SPT (Subaru Performance Tuning) is Subaru of America's tuning division. STi (Subaru Tecnica International) is, of course, and international division.

SPT has a website (http://www.spt.subaru.com/microsites/spt/home.sptmain). It seems SPT tunes Subarus that come to the States...using products beyond STi. STi tunes all subarus, but mainly whatever it is running in the WRC. The research and development of those parts from STi reaches production at some point for Subaru aftermarket tuning.

I'm making this stuff up, but it sounds logical.

i just don't understand why STi *and* SPT both make performance parts for Subarus.

This is how I understand it. Subaru of America launched SPT along side the WRX, as a source for some factory performance parts, as they didn't feel there was a valid market in the US for STi stuff. Sound familiar? SPT is a strictly American label, and does not sell the same equipment as STi, it's usually cheaper stuff. Of course SoA was wrong as usual, and we now have STi parts at every Subaru dealership, Heck, I even got a flyer for STi parts from the local dealer yesterday. As far as I know, the only SPT stuff still available are a couple of decals and a muffler. I think the SPT brand is going to be phased out rather soon.

DAMN! I love the body kit on the XT! That's definetly the best looking car on that page.
