Back when I still had Beauty she did the same thing. Do NOT wait to replace the alternator. She up and quit and that was it. Also do the Alternator Wiring upgrade.

I have heard of people having them rebuilt and they are better than the original, if that can even be possible.

And there seems to be a great how-to in the How-To locker on How-To do it. Hmmmmmmm wonder where that came from.

When I had my Toyota, I didn't really know what the charge light meant, so I drove it for two days with a dead alternator. The truck BARELY made it into the parking spot at my apartment. I don't plan on driving the SVX at all until this is fixed. The front CV is also making more and more frightening noises, so I think that's also due before I drive it any more.

I think I will do the 'wiring upgrade' while I'm at it. Small, reversible modifications with no ill side effects are okay with me.

Hmm.....is it laid out like STEER with the ING under it? Maybe I have seen it and just didn't fully remember.

Randy,
First of all, it sounds as if you speak from experience which has me a bit worried. I don't know what you Southern boys do for fun and don't think I need more information on that

Second, EEWWWWW!

Third, EEWWWWWW!

Fourth, does your wife or Beav know about this

Significant Technical Input
This is beginning to show signs of a 'smear' campaign. First of all, they don't stick. The spoon keeps dragging them down to the floor. Secondly, I don't eat cheese anymore, so if they do stick they can't be mine. Thirdly, if they're not mine whose are they and how many people are in the collection group?

Beav

p.s. now we know why it's lonely at the top.....

i've seen some strange, crazy things in my life, most of which i will never speak of again. I'm putting these post in that list

but i do want to know if this rumor that stock boy replaced his speakers w/ aftermarket speakers is true??? or are they from a junkyard subaru? I suppose if they were from the same company that subaru used (boes maybe??) it would be ok

Okay, okay, okay. I have made some modifications. Things on my car that aren't stock:

Hood Badge -- Replaced with JDM Badge

Horns -- Replaced with Fiamm Sidewinders to go HONK! HONK! instead of ANKH! ANKH!

Speakers -- Front and rear (both were buzzing) with Sony X-Plod 3-Ways.

Resonator -- removed and replaced with straight pipe.

Wheels -- Replaced with 94, bright silver instead of the dark silver.

Radiator Cap -- they sent one with an orange sticker instead of the original black sticker, which really has me aggrivated.

K & N Filter -- Replaces Paper filter.

I believe that is all. I do have some Bradi Drilled and Slotted Rotors that will go on soon.

I expect to get an additional 25 HP out of the radiator cap with the orange sticker and maybe five from the horns.

But that's not all! Note, these are very conservative estimates.

New badge : Smoother surface, less wind resistance = 1/2 hp
Horns : Aftermarkets are always more efficient, so less load on the alt = 1 hp
Speakers : It takes power to make noise, so no buzzing means you're using less power = 1/2 hp per speaker
Resonator : More flow equals more power = 35 hp
Wheels : Brighter color reflects instead of absorbing stray solar radiation which hinders the rotational momentum of the wheels = 1 hp per wheel
Radiator cap : You know heavy duty ones double the output right? = 50 hp
K & N charger : Just imagine the gains from having two "filterchargers"! = 40 hp
Drilled/slotted rotors : Less mass = 2 hp her wheel.

That's a gain of 140.5 hp for a nearly stock SVX! Just imagine how much more you could get with coffee can tail pipes and those glow in the dark tires and valve stem caps! Note, fuzzy dice tend to rob hp due to their additional mass.

Oh hell. How much do the fuzzy dice rob? I may be back to stock power in that case.

(I know they're tacky, but my daughter thinks they're cute, so, I keep them just for her. )

depending on the fuzzy dice you get, can either add or subtract horse power. I hear the neon light up ones add 1hp per little glowie dot the normal black and white fuzzy dice rob 1hp per fuzzy dot. it's that fuzzy rice logic.
