My baby's back...in the shop!
So a few months back (August/Sept), I had posted that my baby was at the Subaru dealer undergoing tranny/axles/powersteering repairs.
This was covered mostly by an extended warranty I had on it. The transmission, however, was sent down to TRC for a rebuild then back to the dealer for installation. Last week my fiancee tells me there was smoke coming from the brakes... (She drives it on a daily basis, I drive the Cobra). Since I knew the brakes were pretty bad as it was, I really thought that was the problem and ordered a lot of brake parts. I then did a diagnostic myself and realize the smoke was not coming from the brakes, it was coming from underneath but directly behind the front wheels... And the smell, although faint, was not of burning oil, coolant, or brake fluid/pads... It was of transmission fluid! So I realized there's a leak, probably coming from the rear output on the tranny where it connects to the driveshaft... It is leaking directly on the exhaust so when it gets real hot it burns/evaporates... I called the dealer and they said they warranty their work for 12mo/12k miles... I've only put 3k miles since the repairs. The car's at the dealer right now, and they'll call me to let me know. I never had any issues with leaks before, and the transmission feels strong, so I'm thinking/hoping it's a seal and that they deem it to be cuz of their work so they don't charge me for it. It sucks not having the car, again... It's an inconvenience and the last time it was in the shop for almost 2 months. I wouldn't expect it to be there for that long this time, but then again the last time they estimated 1 week at the beginning...

It's possible it's the power steering hose(s).
Best way to tell...which fluid is low?
