In Canada where we have a requirement for DRL's, the SVX fog light work as the day lights. They're on all the time if the headlights are not. This isn't a super hard and fast rule though, my Taurus has never had daytime lights and I've never gotten any trouble from it.

How do HID's conflict with the DRL's? I have a set of HID's from svxfiles, and I have no problems. During the day the fogs are on, and at night I turn on the headlights and the HID's come on and the fogs turn off.

One problem is that if his HID's are the daytime runners (which the low beams are in almost all cars with DRL's) then they will constantly be turning on and off, unless you are in the car on long trips all the time. This is bad for HID's. If you turn them on, you need to leave them on for at least 10 minutes. Failure to do so will cause the bulbs and ballasts to wear out prematurely. And I don't think anyone wants to have to buy those components if you don't have to... I looked into this before doing my swap back in 2005...
