Reading Demo
If any one is interested, I'll bring the test set-up I made for the TPS to Reading. I can show you what a bad TPS looks likes.
Also if any one is interested, I can show you how the line pressure voltage and transfer solenoid voltage changes as the car accelerates. I still have the leads connected to the TCU available for this. |

I'm interested in seeing that. Just out of curiosity, what pin(s) on the ECU are you connected to?

It is the pins on the TCU and I'll show you in the service manual. You were at Reading last year? Video tapeing if I remember right? |

What type of instrument are you using for measurements in respact of the TCU ? It would appear that your measurements are confined to DC Volts in which case this will give a confused picture.

Hi Trevor,
An O-scope would be great but I do not have one. I use an anolog volt meter, a cheap one at that! Digital doesn't work for this. I am talking about two different voltage measurements. One for the line pressure and the other for the transfer pressure. The voltage for line pressure is steady and changes from max to min as throttle goes down. The voltage for the transfer pressure actually pulses at the max voltage and then goes to min as the accel is depressed. I understand what you are saying about the solenoid being open or closed with no in between. I am just looking at the average value of voltage from what you say. Can you Fed-X over an O-scope? |

Practical Measurements
I can see that you are aware of what you are measuring and are correctly interpreting the results.
Digital meters have their uses but in many instances will not replace an analog instrument and can be frustrating to read when a fluctuating measurement is involved. Cheap does not mean nasty. The brain behind the reader is the deciding factor. Even if I could Fed-X you my scope you would have a problem with the trailing lead as I do not have an DC/AC inverter to go with it ! I gather you are taking measurements on the run which is what makes it interesting. Keep observing and see if you can come to some conclusions taking into account the limited gear you have available.
