Correct. That is the typical setup for car woofers. Some high-end installations maintain a stereo woofer setup, but that usually has the woofers in a custom door, or similar, setup. In the trunk mono is indistinguishable from stereo.

Yes.

Or are you asking for putting an amp on front speakers too? The answer would still be yes, but there are very few 3-channel amps (I use one, but then I'm a little unbalanced myself ). Also, very few 4-channel amps can also drive woofers because they can't (a) produce enough power for woofers (compared to what the front set require), or (b) if bridged, can't bridge below 4-Ohm loads. The usual way to do this is to buy two amps, one for up front (or even 4-channels) and one for the woofers.

With two 4-Ohm woofers you have three choices only...wire in parallel (2-Ohm load), wire in series (8-Ohm load), or keep in stereo (two 4-Ohm loads).

Lee, what is your opinion on the amp above?

600 watts rms X 1 @ 2 ohms

Price seems right.

Audio is a personal thing, including what sound quality means, but you asked for personal, so I'll give it....Audiobahn is more glitz than go (IMO). Their products tend to produce what they state (but not a lot more). They seem to do well in reliability - at least I haven't heard a lot of horror stories. Still, I think you'll be happy with that amp.

For me personally, I'd still go with the Power series from Rockford, like this one

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...=5754708270&rd

Rockford's punch series is of lesser quality (closer to Audiobahn IMO). The power series always outperforms the specs - or at least every one I've seen.

Or how about this one:

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...757044581&rd=1

I ran Alpine amps for a couple of years (they are now in my son's car and still performing flawlessly) until I upgraded to a 3-channel Xtant amp (two stereo channel for the front speakers, one mono channel for the woofer).

BTW, I ran Infinity woofers in my car for a couple of years, and IMO they have the best quality/price ratio for woofers on the market. And if you ever decide to upgrade the front speakers I would just as strongly recommend CDT Audio. Other brands may have more flash & name, and even have better sound quality, but CDT are exceptional when used in stock locations because of their sound dispersion patterns.

One last thing...600 watts and two 12" Infinities and you will overpower almost any speaker you put on the front stage (if you're going for balanced sound quality). But then again sound is a personal thing and how much bass is too much is....

I'm liking the Alpine amp you posted the link too. Price is at least half of any local retailers....and the item is a 2005 model that is brand new and unopened. So, I'm probably gonna go with that one.

The sound stuff is for my Teal 5spd. So, I may transfer it to my Ebony (daily driver) eventually and upgrade the Teal car.

I'm going to be replacing the front speakers too....so I'll check around for those CDTs.

Thanks SO MUCH!

I have it narrowed down to about 3 choices. Looking for opinions on Infinity amps??? I'm torn between the three as there is not much difference in price.....but the infinity amps seem to be rated higher than the alpine.

Now, I've heard they make one hell of a subwoofer (which is why I went that route)....what about their amps??

Choices:

Infinity Reference 1210a - 1300 watts rms x 1 @ 2 ohms - $289

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...sPageName=WDVW

Infinity Reference 610a - 657 watt rms x 1 @ 2 ohms - $182

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...sPageName=WDVW

Alpine MRD-M605 - 600 watts rms x 1 @ 2 ohms - $240

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...sPageName=WDVW

Sorry haven't heard one. However, I'm not aware of any product Infinity made that was trash.

Thought I'd chime in here, I've been using alpine products for quite some time and found them to be exceptional. They are extremely durable, and clean as far as amps go and customer service is great if something goes wrong.

I don't have too much experience here but I did have an issue with my Alpine amp and blowing the internal capacitors. Fortunately it was fixed under warranty and has been fine since.
