Speed Sensor

My local Subaru dealer tells me I need a speed sensor iin my differential. Since I recently had the transmission rebuilt, they suggested I go back to my tranny shop, which I did. He said he can't locate the speed sensor anywhere including my local Subaru dealer and it also needs the adjacent shaft which goes into it (this is broken). Does anyone have a clue as to where I might locate these parts? Thanks.

Maybe I'm just a doubting Thomas type, but my guess is they don't want to do the job. If it needs the shaft too, I believe they will have to pull the transaxle back out.

the sensor is about $150, part #1 here:

the shaft and seal, etc is around $20, on this page.

There's also a nylon (or some other plastic type) gear on the shaft I didn't look for.

best of luck.
