Don't buy gas on SEPT 1! Would this work?
I got this e-mail from a friend of mine. I just copied and pasted.
Would this work? With a premium gas just hit $3.04/gallon tonight in town. I'm trying to forward to SVXers: > IT HAS BEEN CALCULATED THAT IF EVERYONE IN THE UNITED STATES AND CANADA > DID NOT PURCHASE A DROP OF GASOLINE FOR ONE DAY AND ALL AT THE SAME TIME, > THE OIL COMPANIES WOULD CHOKE ON THEIR STOCKPILES. > > AT THE SAME TIME IT WOULD HIT THE ENTIRE INDUSTRY WITH A NET LOSS OF OVER > 4.6 BILLION DOLLARS WHICH AFFECTS THE BOTTOM LINES OF THE OIL COMPANIES. > > THEREFORE SEPTEMBER 1st HAS BEEN FORMALLY DECLARED "STICK IT UP THEIR > BEHIND DAY AND THE PEOPLE OF THESE TWO NATIONS SHOULD NOT BUY A SINGLE > DROP OF GASOLINE THAT DAY. > > THE ONLY WAY THIS CAN BE DONE IS IF YOU FORWARD THIS E-MAIL TO AS MANY > PEOPLE AS YOU CAN AND AS QUICKLY AS YOU CAN TO GET THE WORD OUT. > > WAITING ON THE GOVERNMENT TO STEP IN AND CONTROL THE PRICES IS NOT GOING > TO HAPPEN. WHAT HAPPENED TO THE REDUCTION AND CONTROL IN PRICES THAT THE > ARAB NATIONS PROMISED TWO WEEKS AGO? > > REMEMBER ONE THING, NOT ONLY IS THE PRICE OF GASOLINE GOING UP BUT AT THE > > SAME TIME AIRLINES ARE FORCED TO RAISE THEIR PRICES, TRUCKING COMPANIES > > ARE FORCED TO RAISE THEIR PRICES WHICH EFFECTS PRICES ON EVERYTHING THAT > IS SHIPPED. THINGS LIKE FOOD, CLOTHING, BUILDING MATERIALS, MEDICAL > SUPPLIES ETV. WHO PAYS IN THE END? WE DO! > > 8/29/2005 > > WE CAN MAKE A DIFFERENCE. IF THEY DON'T GET THE MESSAGE AFTER ONE DAY, WE > WILL DO IT > > AGAIN AND AGAIN. > > SO DO YOUR PART AND SPREAD THE WORD. FORWARD THIS E-MAIL TO EVERYONE YOU > KNOW. MARK YOUR CALENDARS AND MAKE SEPTEMBER 1ST A DAY THAT THE CITIZENS > OF THE UNITED STATES AND CANADA SAY "ENOUGH IS ENOUGH" > > >

There is a fact i want to share with you guys concerning gas prices:
I recently knew that gas cost in Quatar (Middle East) is $4 for 20L of Premium Gas. really shocking low prices, over here it is $16 for 20L Premium.... That's 4X more than the price of one of our neighboring country... And it is good what you will do on Sept 1... and don't blame the Arabs, trust me, USA, UK and other Europeans control the Gas Prices in the Arab World.... OPEC?

If you want to boycott something, boycott forwarding junk mail and purchasing from companies that send junk mail.

i'd love to shove a shoe up the dude's butt that came up with that email.
what amazes me is that people actually believe in that crap and keeps that damn thing circulating through email. i figure people would have been exposed to the false nature of it by now. i remember reaming this girl who's a medical malpractice lawyer and the people in her email list from the DOJ started thanking me for doing so. seriously it takes a minute to find that email on , but people with 'higher' education should know better. how for ****s sake is boycotting gas when there's shortage going to help drive the price down? it's a shortage for crying out loud. it was announced by september 2, gas prices in atlanta's going to be over $3 due to the pumps pushing gas to atlanta being shutdown from power failures. they mentioned that gas rations may go into effect if it gets bad. yay, involuntary boycott. |

I'm always amused/frustrated/vexed/peeved when I hear of North Americans complaining about the cost of gasoline. Try filling your tank over here
Thought you might find the following info interesting. Due to different organizations using different national averaging techniques, you'll find the data doesn't quite match. But prices have changed a lot in the last 5-6 months anyway, so take this as just a general picture of the trend in pricing. In comparison, the US isn't too bad, eh? Here's a basic breakdown of US prices: Source: Energy Information Administration, 2005 |

These e-mails are so stupid. Even if it could work you'd NEVER be able to convince everyone to take part. I'm sorry but if I need gas, I'm buying it! I don't care what day it is. It's like telling everyone to not use electricity for a day so we can teach the electric company a lesson

The enormous jump in gas prices over the past year hasn't hurt me or my wife too much - our commutes are under five miles, round trip. But just a couple years ago I was driving my SVX 30-45mi every day, and my wife was driving almost double that. I can imagine how loud we'd be if we were still using that much gas. The flipside is that this situation will begin to affect Americans' car-buying choices at some point. As for the original post, give me a break. I hate forwarded emails so much that I am tempted to delete the post. Phil was right, if it says 'pass this on to everybody you know, then that's a sure sign you should can it. It wouldn't work anyway. People would just fill up the day before or the day after - they'd still buy just as much gas.

Should UPS not gas up their trucks tomorrow? How about FedEx? Oh, I know, maybe the USPS can cancel all mail deliveries tomorrow. Maybe the airlines should cancel all flights....those jets use tons of petroleum based fuel!! Heck, let's all walk to work tomorrow! THAT will teach those evil gas companies! While we're at it, let's not use any water tomorrow because we pay too much for water, and let's not use any electricity tomorrow because that is pricey also. Dave |

Yeah and people thought drive offs and gas stealing was bad before. But really I think I would make more money if I just stayed home and didn't drive to work Sure gas prices can rise but if people don't start getting huge raises over night there is going to be a serious problem.

Heck, it's cheaper than a gallon of water. When I was coming back from the last Reading meet, I stopped and picked up a quart of bottled water. 1.39. Four quarts to the gallon -- 5.56 a gallon....before sales tax...for WATER. Do the math on a gallon of Visine and you'll FREAK OUT!
