Cleaning the 93. Warning: Not for the weak stomach.

As some of you may know, as I had posted another thread, I recently purchased a 1993 Anniversary Edition for a personal project. After replacing the trans over the weekend with Tom's assistance, I decided to take the car to work, as I have all day free. (long story)

Today I spent time cleaning out the contents of the interior, among other things. I don't think words can describe it, so Ill let the photos do the talking.

First, the problem with the trans.

I don't know how some people can let their cars get this bad!

At that point, there was no way I was saving that carpet, so out it went.

Ruined Rear Seat:

Peeling off crappy purple tint:

Looking somewhat less rough?

Now that the carpet is gone, all of the plastic trim pieces are soaking in a car wash solution to loosen the grime.

Out of all of this, it is hard to believe, but the car actually drives fairly well. Before it was parked due to a differential failure, the car received new BFGoodrich Tires, pads and rotors, and front axles. However, the car sat for over two years so even those items show some age, but there are no trouble codes, bearing noises, or anything else other than this cosmetic/unsanitary mess.

I'm making a list of the items I need, but I know for sure I will need two front door panels, carpet tub, rear seat bottom, driver seat, shifter surround woodgrain and the PS dash suede.

I didn't expect to start this project this soon, but I suppose I cant seem to get enough when it comes to these cars...

I have high expectations for this car, as in, I know it will get much better, after seeing what just a couple hours today did. (The odor is mostly gone! )

Looks good so far Mike. That rust is it just surface etched or did it rot through?

Its mostly surface. There may be pinholes but it didn't feel that thin from a cursory examination. It's on my list, along with the 87,000 dings .

Oh, and a quick one of it with the bowling shoe:

Re: Cleaning the 93. Warning: Not for the weak stomach.

Reminds me of the hard cleaning I've done to my FWD SVX....though not nearly as bad. I wish I had taken before and after pictures. Great job and goodluck finishing this project.
