Question Found 92 SVX for Sale ---Good Deal?

Hi all, I'm a Subie fan and I've been thinking about getting an SVX. I found one for sale in Santa Barbara CA that may be interesting. It's a white 1992 LS-L fully loaded with only 25,000 miles. ( Haven't yet done a carfax to see if the mileage checks out) If you go to autotrader.com and use zipcode 93103 you should be able to find it. The guy wants $9,999. It says in autotrader that its a private party but it's not. He's a "broker" who is selling the car for a little old lady. . . .blah, blah, blah!

Any thoughts?

Mark

I would say the car's worth that much but with today's SVX prices look at more like half that amount.

Yeah, I looked at KBB.com, Edmunds.com and Carsdirect and the highest estimate I found was $7,330.

I've always taken into consideration what you would get for the car if it was totaled.

According to NADA - which is what most insurance companies use to base their payouts on is $ 5750.00 high retail.

If this car actually has 25000 miles on it and is in spectacular show room condition - you'd probably get more if the insurance company totaled it.

So there's some food for thought.

Ran the carfax and in 1999 it only had 19,000 some odd miles.

THere are no records of title updates or emissions testing pass 2001.

Carfax gives it a buy-back guarantee.

Thanks Yellow! Does it show only one owner? Is it possible to email the Carfax? If so and you're as kind and generous as everyone on this board says My email is markfmoore@earthlink.net. The guy selling it says that he would send me the carfax but I haven't gotten it yet.

Thanks, Mark

If I had the money, I'd buy it before you get the chance, and it would sit in my garage every day until my current car explodes.

10k may seem high for a 92 but chances are you won't have maintenance issues for years, maybe never if you listen to us and take care of it properly.

Check your email.

If you decide not to buy this....I suggest you hang for a while and "listen" to what's being said about these cars.

OH yeah.....welcome.

Yeah, My big hesitations are:
1. I've never driven an SVX. I sat in one at a car show about 10 years ago and loved it. But, I don't really know if I like it.

2. What makes the car interesting and possibly collectable is also what makes finding parts difficult. And parts will become rarer.

3.This particular car is white. White? No offense to those who love cars without color.

4 It happens to be about 80 miles from home. L.A. traffic on a Friday. This would take half a day to drive there, test drive, then drive home. Alot of time for a car that I'm not sure I'll even like. If I had driven one, fallen in love and was searching for a great example then no problem.

But the possibility of love will probably win out. And I'll schlep all the way to Sant Barbara on a whim.

Once you see the car in person you'll realize it's not just white but pearl. They look much better in person. I'm partial to blue but the pearl white is a favourite among many here.

Thanks Yellow

Ireally appreciate the help.

I've been a looky loo on this and other sites for a while . I know about some of the tranny problems and bearing problems.

Really, I'm looking for something special. I'm tired of driving "just another car." I used to drive an 85 MR2 that I bought from the original owner. I sold it to buy a Mustang Convertible. I have missed my MR2 since the day I sold it 6 years ago. Now I'm driving a Forester. Nice but not Special. The SVX seems like it could be Special and affordable.

Welcome to the site. That would be a good one to buy, but maybe a little high on the price. If it was a cople of years newer, it would be worth the $10,000. Good luck.
