Huffington is hardly the place to get credible information unless you want far left slanted information. You also, should have checked the basis fore this study. It's based on a poorly worded question on the last census. "Were you at any time during the last year without health insurance?"

From that they made some assumptions that people were more likely to die if they did not have health insurance---duh!!!!! Any idiot could make that assumption, but oddly enough they are not any more likely to die than people WITH health insurance that don't go to the doctor regularly.

The number of VETs (data magically released on Veterans Day and just as voting was taking place on the healthcare bill--- ) reported is purely based on the percentage of vets in the population in question and not on true figures.

Soooooo---it's a BS study released at a politically correct time.........................

Do I need to say more???????

That's a flawed logic. With more than half-million cancer deaths in US each year, who cares about 1.449 fallen heroes in Afghanistan and 4.345 in Iraq? Using your reasoning - they are "insignificant" and should be forgotten, right?

As long as there is no costly procedures involved, yes. Then again, consider one going to a doctor for what he perceives as a minor illness and being diagnosed with cancer. Without health insurance, most people would not be able to pay for the treatment. Going with or without treatment, I guess, somewhat affects the chances of survival.

Re: Why our country is screwed

Ive been gone for awhile but thought Id refresh as the OP on this thread. Ive been over on the survivalist boards for a good time and learned quite a bit about politics and our government. Im am neither a democrat or republican anymore, they have failed me and my country. Why? They have robbed us blind all for the sake of bailing companies out that the Federal Reserve doesnt need to mention in Congressioanl hearings. Where did the money go? It sure as hell didnt go to the American people but instead went to corporations, banks, foreign countries, etc all in the guise to "save America". Governement healthcare is another sham being shoved down our throats, who is going to pay for it 4 yrs in advance!? You and me. Its tax heavy on top of it. Cap and Trade isnt far behind either. Raise cattle, they are going to tax each head you raise, tax how much energy you use etc. If you like the UN support this B.S.

Then there is this person we call "President Obama" who bows to foreign leaders like we owe them something. In the case of China we probably do. But you know what who cares they sell us ****ty drywall. Id call it even. But no this clown flies over there to Japan to "apologize" for bombing Hiroshima and Nagasaki WTF. We wouldnt have to bomb them into submission if they invaded half of Asia and the Pacific now would we. No apologies from me its in the past, get over it.

Wake up America either take a stand together against big government or this country we know will cease to exist.

Re: Why our country is screwed

It is truly scary to listen to Obama, Gore, Bush, and Clinton. They are in reality extremely stupid. They think that they can create a welfare state and solve problems "pragmatically" all day, which means by printing more money. The day will come when our next concession as a country will be to dissolve our currency into the hands of governments outside of our own, and all of our government employees will live happily ever after. I don't care what religionist bull**** philosophy they preach or how hard their puppet masters have them by the balls, clearly their brain cells are not all there if they are willing to sacrifice their own children's future in the name of "getting things done".

Re: Why our country is screwed

RiGhT ArM!
Liberals think you can solve all problems, including racism, discrimination, unemployment and lack of motivation with a cradle-to-grave large government series of institutions. Of course, noone can name one efficient government program. Now that I'm 64.. . near my 66 Social Security pension "due date".. . it's prematurely bankrupt. Why anyone would even begin to think that National Health Care would work (esp efficiently like Obama touted) .. . is beyond me.

Gore is the only liberal dorkier than Obama himself (confirmed narcissist, black racist, socialist.. . and leaning to Marxism). He created Global Warming out of a need to elevate himself to a height far above the crowd (that he thot he would get .. as President). His own personal home touting an energy use 300 times that of the average U.S. home.. . while he continued to pontificate the sins of CO2. Now we know the whole "science" behind Global Warming was perverted by power-tripping scientists/politicians. Yet Cap and Trade still grinds forward.. .

The point I'm trying to get to is this.. . As bad as the Liberals, their policies, and these men are.. . I have an incredible pain and disappointment in my gut.. For our Country, it's Constitution.. . and WHAT HAPPENED TO OUR PEOPLE.. . SO MANY WILLING TO CAN COMMON SENSE, "UNDER GOD", OUR CONSTITUTION.. . AND EMBRACE SOCIALISM, WHICH HAS FAILED TO ONE DEGREE OR ANOTHER..WHEREVER IT WAS INSTITUTED!

If the populace does not rise up.. . for what is Right.. . for what so many thousands of our servicemen have fought for.. . the unique goodness of America will be lost.

HELP!

Re: Why our country is screwed

I found this to be interesting, but disturbing, reading:

About the time our original thirteen states adopted their new constitution in 1787, Alexander Tyler, a Scottish history professor at the University of Edinburgh, had this to say about the fall of the Athenian Republic some 2,000 years earlier: 'A democracy is always temporary in nature; it simply
cannot exist as a permanent form of government.'

'A democracy will continue to exist up until the time that voters discover they can vote themselves generous gifts from the public treasury.'

' From that moment on, the majority always vote for the candidates who promise the most benefits from the public treasury, with the result that every democracy will finally collapse due to loose fiscal policy, which is always followed by a dictatorship.'

'The average age of the world's greatest civilizations from the beginning of history, has been about 200 years'

'During those 200 years, those nations always progressed through the following sequence:
1. from bondage to spiritual faith;

2. from spiritual faith to great courage;

3. from courage to liberty;

4. from liberty to abundance;

5. from abundance to complacency;

6. from complacency to apathy; (We are here. The reason we are here is because too many of us do not care enough to vote the bums and the crooks out of office. Less than ½ of all eligible voters actually vote. That's called complacency.)

7. from apathy to dependence;

8. from dependence back into bondage'

Professor Joseph Olson of Hemline University School of Law, St. Paul , Minnesota points out some interesting facts concerning the 2008 Presidential election:

Number of States won by:
Democrats: 29
Republicans: 21

Square miles of land won by:
Democrats: 580,000
Republicans: 2,427,000

Population of counties won by:
Democrats: 127 million
Republicans: 143 million

Murder rate per 100,000 residents in counties won by:
Democrats: 13.2
Republicans: 2.1

Professor Olson adds: 'In aggregate, the map of the territory Republican won was mostly the land owned by the taxpaying citizens of this great country.. Democrat territory mostly encompassed those citizens living in government-owned tenements and living off various forms of government welfare...'
Olson believes the United States is somewhere between the 'complacency and apathy' phase of Professor Tyler's definition of democracy, with some forty percent of the nation's population already having reached the 'governmental dependency' phase.

If Congress grants amnesty and citizenship to twenty million criminal invaders called 'illegal's' and they vote, then we can say goodbye to the USA in fewer than five years.
