A/C o-ring question
I need to replace the o-rings on the a/c connections at the compressor. Should I use any kind of dressing on the rings to make them seal better or last longer?
Thanks, John Sullivan '92 SVX |

Use the appropriate refrigerant oil for the system to lubricate the o-rings before assembly.

Where did you find the O rings? I couldn't find a part number and the local parts stores around here don't sell AC parts anymore.

Usually you have to buy an assortment. Best and cheapest method would be to take the ones you need to a repair shop and have them match them from their assortment. Toss them enough for a six pack and everyone should be happy.

I'm fairly certain you can't just use any o-rings.
My (yet to be installed) R134 retrofit kit came with all green o-rings (not that the color is what makes the difference). I'm sure there is a difference other than not being able to mix the old ones with the new ones.

The green rings are supposedly slightly thicker to accomodate R-134 which is molecularly smaller and more prone to leakage. We've been using the green, blue and original black o-rings for several years now and there really doesn't seem to be any advantage of one over the other. If I recall correctly the green rings were originally designed for Fords that had an issue with leaks at their slip-connect fittings.
