Crank & Cam Seal/Shaft Wear Groove

Does anybody have any advice on what to do if the old crank or cam seal has worn a groove into the respective shaft?

I am planing on changing these parts in a 91 Legacy. The questions comes up because I did see a wear groove on the crank for my SVX when I changed the oil pump. So I am just thinking ahead. Unfortunately I did not get see the effect of the groove on the SVX becuase I swapped the engine before it had any run time to speak of.

Thanks

Significant Technical Input
You can try to position the seal a little ahead of or behind the groove, if possible (just make sure its O.D. is fully inserted into place.) Or, a number of companies, Chicago Rawhide for example, make 'wear rings', very thin bands of highly polished steel that 'slip' over the groove - 'slip' being a relative term. It takes a bit of patience to install them correctly, the thin metal will distort easily if a heavy hand is use. Talk to your local parts store.
