Northstar probably not, its those pesky ohcs that get in the way. Of couse going with a carb makes the old small blocks an easy fit.

Re: V8 Swap in a SVX

ive seen both an eg33 and an LS1 in an 02 wrx, thart would leat me to believe that the ls1 will fit in the svx bay no trouble, you cant tell me that an ls1 is wider than an eg33....

Wider no but it would also have to sit back quite a bit further and cut into the unibody or sit so high the hood would become optional. Can it be made fit, sure, anything can be made to fit. Will it fit without major modifications, not if you want it to run and not break in two.

Re: V8 Swap in a SVX

I don't know much but I think it would be pretty awesome to put an engine and trans out of a dodge magnum 6.1L or 5.7L AWD. they only have autos, but still... a 6.1L Hemi SVX...

That intake manifold might look good out of the hood

Re: V8 Swap in a SVX

I've actually given quite a bit of thought to this in the last few months seeing as I have one ready for the job in my back yard...

I'm fairly certain the LS/LQ and even the LT/SBC series engines will fit in the engine bay without much issue, especially seeing how they shoehorned them into the F-bodies . The biggest problem I see would be the crossmember. There's no way a stock LS oil pan will work, maybe one for a blazer swap? The pan and the oil pickup would have to be moved to the front of the engine. Even with that I'm still pretty sure the crossmember would have to be modified.

I did see a video not too long ago of an LS swapped STi that retained the all wheel drive, but I wouldn't go that route. I remember reading on here that the unibody is the same/similar to the z32 platform. If you could swap in a z32 rear subframe, you'd have a diff that would be able to hold most mild v8 swaps (VK56 anyone?). The other route you could go would be to use a good ol' 9" or 12 bolt, or whatever solid axle you wanted. The car would have to be back halved, and then you could install some type of rear suspension setup. Most people would probably say a triangulated 4 link, but I like some of the 3 link setups. It all depends on what you want to do with the car. Personally, I would like to look into the IRS route.

As for trannies, I think there is enough room to squeeze in a T-56, so a T-5 or a 700r4/4l60 should fit. Obviously a custom crossmember would have to be made, but that's been done before.

Now to just get it to stop, turn, and slide

Re: V8 Swap in a SVX

Eh, plenty easy to hang some other diff out there, main issue is the axles and driveshaft modified to match.

Might also be possible to use a C5 drivetrain and just mount the corvette suspension/transaxle back there for even better wieght balance. Whole different level of fabrication though.

That said 05-07 STi R180 diff, axles, hubs, brakes is the easiest upgrade.

mtotor and box are in the car, just have to finish making the engine loom and taping up the body loom, then mod the saab turbo radiator, plumb it up, get a CVshaft and do a shake down.

Re: V8 Swap in a SVX

i saw a kid at cars n coffee a couple weeks back with an LS1 in his miata. stock hood. If can fit in there, it could fit in a svx. its the other aforementioned problems you'd have to sort out. It'd be super sic tho
