Spark Plug Wires
Can the spark plug wires be a big problem?
If so whats the best and most convenient solution? |

Re: Spark Plug Wires
Our cars don't have spark plug wires. We have individual direct ignition coils. Problems? They will fail eventually. When they do that cylinder won't run anymore. Solution? Buy a new coil. Not exactly a regular failure item, which is good because they cost $75+ each (there are 6 of them).

Re: Spark Plug Wires
Ok thanks, i must have got the wrong Info.
What happens when the coils start failing? And does the car vibrate or choke at low speeds? |

Re: Spark Plug Wires
When the EG33 is missing, you'll know it. At idle you'll hear an irregular exhaust note (thumping sounds, I could hear mine missing at idle from across the parking lot), the whole car will be shaking like a cammed out big block, it will have very little power.... I've never driven the car at speed with a bad coil, I limped it to the shop across the road and fixed it.

Re: Spark Plug Wires
I see, thanks, driver i talked to had issues with the coils earlier, and replaced 2 of 6, I was wondering if i should at least repair 2 more, before buying the car. To save some trouble on the long run, it runs fine now. What do you think?

Re: Spark Plug Wires
I wouldn't worry too much about them. What's the mileage on the car? One thing you could do is buy one of the front coils to keep as a spare. The front two have the longest wires, which will allow them to be used on any cylinder. They don't really give much for warning signs in my experience.
