You can check car-part.com for a used one...

What's your idea of a reasonable price?

Re: transmission question

I would suggest switching to the 4.44 gears by putting in a 96-98 outback transmission. It's definitely a lot cheaper than going with an svx transmission. If you really want you can go with the stock svx transmission just know that it probably won't be cheap...

You are in FLA!
Mike at ECUTune (in FLA) has rebuilt transmissions for just a little more than you want to spend!
http://www.ecutune.com/4eat.htm
They come with a rebuilt TQ, and a modified valve body!
Why do anything else?

Re: transmission question

Work with Mike. The option of a salvage yard SVX or 4.44 tranny is still a used transmission. I went the 4.44 route and ended up with a tranny that leaked at every seal (it wasn't from svxfiles). In the long run I spent more than if I did a rebuild.

Re: transmission question

The experience I related was with a '92 Teal, since sold and which my son and i did on our own. I had no reverse or low gear on my silver and it was a $1,200 fix at a local tranny shop experienced with Subaru trannys. 15,000 miles later and all is still good, knock wood. I know, not the $ you are hoping for but how about peace of mind and a warranty?
A question i have for everyone, is how can a core be bad?
