Intake manifold removal

There are actually 2 step-by-step write-ups in the How To documents that detail removing the intake manifold. But both are basically lists of things to remove while doing this process and assume the reader knows what all these parts are and where they are located. I'll be the first to admit, I don't!

I think as these cars continue to get older, this is going to be more and more necessary with hoses under there cracking and such - I had a coolant hose burst under there. Also, polishing, powdercoating, etc are getting popular so people will be interested in the process for that purpose too. And I can't be the only one baffled by how to do this, can I?

Just saying, the next time someone that knows what they are doing goes through the process, if they would be so kind as to do a more thorough "Idiot's Guide" and take a ton of good pictures at each step of the way, it might be handy and add value to this site.

Re: Intake manifold removal

I will add that I would be willing to do all the picture taking and documenting if I could observe an expert doing this piece by piece and explaining what they are doing along the way.

Re: Intake manifold removal

I could definitely do this and upload the step by step pics, im suspecting my IAC is going out and need to clean/test it ($334.00 OUCH!!).

I have not been able to locate Intake Manifold Gaskets or TB gasket for our engine. Ive tried my main 3: Autozone, Rockauto, and SubaruGenuineParts to no avail. Does anyone know where to find these gaskets??

subaruparts.com or dealer. You might as well throw on some thermo spacers will it's off. http://www.outlawengineering.com/index.html

Re: Intake manifold removal

So those thermoblock spacers you just fit between the block and the bottom of the inlet manifold?

Re: Intake manifold removal

If I remember right the 5 piece kit is around $105-115. You can also e-mail them and ask about the 3 and 5 pice kit for the SVX will cost.

I just removed the intake manifold today and took lots of pics. I was hoping to include pics directly into a thread w/o using Photobucket (I may delete the pics or reorganize them). Can this site handle pics or do they come in as "attachments" only?

Here is a recent quote from Sean at Outlaw Engineering;

Tom,
SVX spacers are available for $115 + $8 for shipping. The kit includes the throttle body spacer, the intake manifold spacers, and the injector adapter spacers plus lengthened fasteners.

We supply the gaskets for the throttle body spacer, but you will need 2 sets of Subaru gaskets for the intake manifold and injector adapters.

We can also sell the kit without the injector adapter spacers for $85 plus $8 shipping.

The easiest way to order is to submit a PayPal payment (www.paypal.com) to our account sales@outlawengineering.com for the cost of the kit plus shipping. Be sure to include a note stating which kit you need and your correct shipping address.

Best regards,
Sean Morgan
