Are my Valve Covers Good?

I took my svx into the dealer and they said I had a bad valve cover. Their inspection may have been wrong, though my car does seem to be running slower. Is there a way I can check to see if I have blown my valve cover or any seals?

well bad gaskets will let quite a bit of oil start to spill after a while. watch your oil level really close for the next few weeks. A cracked valve cover would be very rare and would realy only happen if a rod hit it, which would have done much more damage than just the cover cracking. If they are saying your cover is cracked they are most likely playing you. If your valve gaskets are in fact leaking your front seals, are probobly too. look for oil coming out from under your timing belt cover.

A valve cover has no mechanical aspects, it is just a lid over the valves, it cannot affect the way your car runs....

It CAN however leak around the gaskets, and for a rod to hit the valve cover, it would have to travel through the piston, and head, and cams and valve train....so basically, the motor would no longer run at all if a rod hit the valve cover

Now...the valve cover gaskets can be leaking into the spark plug wells, and filling them with oil, causing misfiring....
