Do a search on resistor mod. We have covered this issue many times from both sides of the fence.

Whew, Nightmare over??

Turns out the transmission is OK!! A seal had come loose and let all the tranmission fluid out. With that fixed and fluid back in it everything seems ok. Hopefully it didn't wear things too much running 20miles with little or no fluid.

In that case, I'd flush it in the next few months to see how things are going. And I'd do it again about 6 months later.

Just as a caution.

I just found this thread now and as I was reading it I was thinking that it sounds like the tranny is low on fluid. I had this happen to me in busy traffic. My car started to really smoke as a result of one of the tranny cooler lines rupturing. I lost about 6 liters of fluid in about 3 minutes...long enough to get out of traffic. At that point the car wouldn't move.

Good thing you didn't take it to a place who would have replaced the tranny on you but not mention the real problem!
