Leather seat vs. Cloth seat weight

Does anyone know the weight for the following:

Driver side leather seat w/motor
Passenger side leather seat
Rear leather seat

Driver side cloth seat
Passenger side cloth seat
Rear cloth seat

I know people have said in the past they the leather 'weighs' alot and that some says that the weight is 'doubled'. But does anyone have their seats out that they could weight?

Dayle? Mike?

Thanks for the input.

I don't think that the weight differential really comes from leather vs. cloth. The big difference is because the leather seat is power and the cloth seat has manual controls.

seats

I just took a back seat bottom out of a 92 svx with leather, and with my bathroom scale it weighs ten pounds. The spare tire, factory tool kit jack and hold down bolts weigh 33 pounds. Switching to a cloth covering on the back seats would gain next to nothing. Has anyone weighed the front and back bumper suports?

OK, the whole lets reduce the weight thing has gone a little too far. No matter what you do the SVX is still gonna weigh a ton, if you really wanna lose some weight theres some parts I'd be willing to take off your hands.

i realize that the motor is the major weight contributor, but i'm curious on how much it actually weighs compared to the cloth. i've read on the boards that leather seats (with controls) is 2x the weight of cloth. even the passenger seats are 'significantly' heavier stated in the posts that members have posted.

someone mentioned that there would be approx. 100-120lbs decrease in weight if seats are swapped for cloth. maybe more if swapped with those sti lightweight seats that i've seen in previous posts.

i figure we know the weight of the sti seats, but not of the svx seats, whether cloth or leather. i was hoping that someone here knew or could weigh them if they have them out.

dunno about you guys, but i'm slightly interested in seeing how much our seats weigh considering some members have nearly cut their toe off moving seats around.

NOTE- don't move seats barefoot or with sandals on

good call earthworm..me too

would be interesting to see how much could be saved by changing to a 5 speed and reducing seat weight. 200lbs? how about replacing the engine with a 4 cylinder? how much more weight would be shed? would the svx weight approx the same as an sti if such mods were done?

I have some cloth seats in the attic. I'll weigh them as soon as I figure out where there is a scale in the house. I will tell ya that if you drop a cloth seat onto a bare foot and it hits where it bolts to the floor it is weighs enough to not only break that toe but to slice into the skin far enough to see bone. I'm just thankful that I didn't do it with leather seats. I would've had to have that toe put back on!

having swapped the power leather for the cloth in my svx i can vouch that they're at least 2x if not 3x the weight of the cloth
however that doesn't say much

the passenger seat weighs appx the same, as does the rear the passenger is probably 20lbs for both really light

the power driver is probably 75lbs or so, and the cloth driver is probably also around 20lbs, ur better off going on a diet because the leater is 5x more comfortable than the cloth

what he said.

SVX = heavy luxury touring car. if you want an RX-7, go buy an RX-7, don't strip out an SVX.

oh...i'm going to buy a svx with a bad tranny and/or engine and then try a few things for it landshark .

i'm not stripping the svx, i'm enhancing it. going to rescue some svx versus someone junking it, i should be praised for being a white knight

wait until i'm done .

i was thinking about getting more comfortable seats or reupholstering the cloth seats with escaine or some nice matted fabric. i don't really need the power seats, i'd rather put a cpu under the seat.

that is another point
the seat pads are interchangeable

you can put the leather on a non power seat if u wanted
you could also put the ecsaine cushions on a non power seat
then you would save the weight and have the comfort
