Talking Volkswagen commercial like SVX?

Is it just me, or does one of those new Volkswagen commercials remind you a bit about SVX fanatics?

The one where a "normal guy" is coming out of the convenience store late at night with some groceries and two creepy looking guys are eyeing his car, looking in the windows suspiciously, etc. He nervously approaches his Jetta and one of the guys gets in his face and mumbles something like "Nice car. This is the Wolfsburg right?" The Jetta owner nods. The guys then go on to tell him that they meet out behind some location on Friday nights or whatever to "look at cars" and maybe he could come. The nervous guy says maybe and then gets out of there fast while the admirers of his car look on.

That's totally how some of the members here are! Chasing down other SVXes, telling the owners they own one too, about this site, about an upcoming meet, etc. And of course some of the owners are like the guy in the commercial, caught off guard and a bit nervous about it. And some are downright rude and don't acknowledge us at all.

Volkswagen's new tag line in this commercial and others is something like "Volkswagen: Just know what you are getting into". Most of the commericals deal with the cult like following and have similar situations. If there were commercials for used cars, this could easily be the SVX tagline!

I have yet to meet an SVX owner who was rude to me. Actually, every SVX owner I've met has been just as excited to meet another owner.

My wife would probably say the same. She's waved down owners in parking lots to tell them about the site.

Nick, you are lucky. Or maybe out here in the NW we are unlucky I should say. Most of us anyway. Balser has done good, he is the one that got me to come to the yahoo group over 3 years ago and I think he's met lots of other SVXers (not sure if any others made it to the sites though).

But I know seasvx and myself have placed tons of cards around the Seattle/Redmond area and for all of that one creepy guy signed up here that we know of (and that guy nearly got banned and now has disappeared).

I see SVXes on the road from time to time, and whenever I get close and hover nearby I am ignored.

And go to the NW forum if you want to hear Alycone's latest sad stories.

Hey, but we can keep trying right? Never give up! I think part of it may be that SVXes seem to be much more populous in our area so the owners may not be to the point yet of thinking they are so special. (although I still get tons of curious looks and questions from non-SVX owners hmmmmmm)

Funny how a topic pops up and then.....

This afternoon I was walking back to my car in a Target parking lot when a green SVX drives by me (female driver), looking for a parking space. I naturally give chase, but then.. thought for a second. What if I were the driver & an old fart in sandals, cut off jean shorts & a shirt that could be banned in Hawaii, stares at me while I exit the car & says something like "Gosh, I got a car just like yours. Wanna dance"? So - even though it was sunny & the lot had lots of people around, I pulled out an SVX Members Card, sorta flashing it like I was a club "official" , & said "Gosh, I got a car just like yours. It's right there. Wanna dance"?
Noooo...just kidding of course, ha-ha, but I did strike up a conversation with Doris, who had never heard of us, but seemed interested in knowing about the group & asked for my home phone number. (Ron gets lucky)? just kidding of course. Hmmmm....
The car's a '95 L (base model) in what looked like very nice shape under the dust, & it should with a whoppin' 20K on the clock!!!!
She's NEVER had a problem with it, & I felt guilty talking about trannies & bearings, but told her to advertise it here if it's ever on the auction block. Are you listening, Earl? Lets see if we get another female on board.

Ron (Hi - wanna go back to my place & study my itchings)?

Ron, what about your bearings?

I am sorry Ron, but that is an East Coast Car and Larry III would have me by the ******@@%#@ if I even looked at it.
