Do you find it ironic that we were just talking about Kuo and his long absence, last night?

The rear stop light sensor works by separating the stop lamps into two circuits, each with two bulbs. The two center panel lights are one circuit and the two outside lights are the other.
The two circuits each go into a sensor and each current draw is measured. If it is not in balance (ie, one circuit has two bulbs, the other only has one working) the stop lamp on the dash triggers. The manual tells you the only "fooled" instance. If one bulb from the center panel is burned out and one bulb on an outer light is burned out, the indicator will not come on. It has a fail-safe so if all four bulbs are burned out (zero current flow) it triggers the light. If you put higher wattage bulbs in the center panel but regular bulbs in the outer lights, it will trigger an indicator even though all four bulbs light. If you replace your lights with LEDs, the light will trigger because the LEDs use next t no current, so the sensor thinks all four bulbs are burned out. Doug

oils well that ends well
I finally got the "stop light" problem fixed. Apparently a bulb was flaky. The "stop light" was on when I got home on Christmas Eve. I held the brake pedal down, and got my daughter to look at the tail lights. One of the bulbs was out.
I released the brakes, and went to reverse, and braked again...no "stop lights"...brake lights working I pulled the offending bulb and I took it inside. Looking through the glass into a light you could see a hint of discoloration on the glass. It really wasn't noticeable outside, in the dark (and it's dark here most of the day) . The brake lights all work, and the "stop lights" is out..finally. Now if I can just get the seat to un-recline.... thanx for all of the input. r/-cas |

Hmm...the one page of the manual I didn't memorize.
Whoever Subaru got their exterior bulbs from, they sure don't like to go out. I have yet to have to replace any save the headlights, and that was only because I wanted to try the coolblues. Now the dash and sunroof switch bulbs are another story. KuoH Quote:
