Did ya get the RE01Rs on clearance from Tire Rack? I got mine for $450 the set when they were half off, and after they were toast, I picked up a set from a buddy who never installed his for the same.

Yep. Everyone I know picked up a few sets I actually just got a set of SSR SSF Type C's for the SVX and I'm going to throw a set of RE11's on them in a few months. Bridgestone is my favorite tire brand.

Getting back to your original question, I wouldn't go cheap considering the miles you drive. Amortized over the life of the tire anything will be inexpensive. The SVX is a luxury tourer. Might as well give it the best.

Have you looked at Vredstein? they get good reviews all over Europe. The Ultrac series.http://www.vredestein.com/

Re: Summer tire decision - go cheap or not?

I ended up ordering the Hankook Ventus V12 Evo K110 XL from Tire Rack. More than I wanted to pay but they seemed like the best tire for the least amount.

Good choice and good luck. I've been running the Ventus V4 ESs on a 300SL and they're excellent in all ways important to me.

Probably a good thing you didn't order the Kuhmo XS, you wouldn't have been able to get out of the car and back into that flameless minivan of yours. I'd be sure with Hankooks to get the tirerack warranty or at the very least be sure not to loose any of the receipts. My mom used to get those on her lego turbo from CVM and they had a habit of loosing their round. Decent tire and CVM or Hankook stood behind 'em and would replace all 4 but more of the PITA factor to me.
