The "Ground Zero Mosque"

Thoughts?

I'm not a fan.

Not totally unrelated; do we have any Muslim SVXN members?

Re: The "Ground Zero Mosque"

It's probably not a great idea. Obviously, if it were to be constructed, it would continually be a target of protest. It's probably also be in bad taste.

That being said, they have every right to construct their community center/mosque there. That is EXACTLY the point of our country. No religious persecution.

This proposed community center is several blocks from the WTC site.

Yes, I see no problem with where they ALREADY are using the current building as a mosque, and I have no problem with building a new one there. It is roughly 3 or 4 blocks from where "ground zero" really is. Yet the media makes it sound as if it is being built right on top of where the trade center buildings (one of the two) really were. At least thats what it sounded to me the first 10+ times I heard about it on the news before actually looking online to find out the facts. The media here is so twisted towards getting viewers that true news and facts don't matter all that much. It's pathetic.

I have met a few muslims over the years, most specifically at one of my jobs, a group (20+) that did electrical work was there for a period of a couple weeks and I was the only person working overnight just to be there for "security" purposes. I spoke with them, talked with them, even had them talk to me about Islam and was able to have a completely civil conversation about religion as I was raised a Lutheran. People need to let go of all the stereotypical BS and take things for what they actually are...

Sorry, I don't usually comment on these political posts because I have strong opinions yet very open to anything anyone might say. I've also had a couple drinks tonight so if what I said doesn't make complete sense, you know why.

Re: The "Ground Zero Mosque"

The building that they want to develop had one of the landing gears from one of the planes come through the roof. There have been human remains found in the same area as well. It is not on top of the site, but is very close. It may be leagal for them to build it, but it is not a good idea. It would be "in your face" if they do it. Especially when the threaten us if we don't allow it.

That's exactly how I feel about it.

They can build it if they want, but don't cry about it when it gets blown up.

This was my sentiment when I first heard of it, as well. If it would only be one in a million people to do it, by NYC's population that would leave eight people ready to harm the building.

If you ask for trouble, you're gonna get it. That's not a threat; it's a policy of common sense for any person in any situation.

The trouble with any resistance is that it's more fuel for the terrorist cause. Al Qaeda has claimed that they've received many volunteers as a result of the reaction that's been displayed.

This is how "open arms" becomes "open fire".

May your deity of choice have mercy on us all.

Re: The "Ground Zero Mosque"

I am planning to live to NYC next year. Having said that, I think we should leave it to the people in that area to decide. Personally, I don't give a (censored) where they build it, and that's what most of my new york friends say.

And there are two things that really plague humanity in the US:

Christianity;

The media.
