Once you remove the rights of one group, its a slippery slope from there on out for the rest of us to lose our rights.

Earl, I respectfully disagree.

No! No! It's a new outpost!

Hey, wow, did you see The Bank Job, where they bought the shop and dug underneath to the vault? This is it! They're going to tunnel under NYC and take the whole thing underwater!

The new answer to "How do you get to Broadway?" will be "Snorkel, snorkel, snorkel!"

No, I don't really think that, thanks. I know a guy who might, though. I call him Tinfoil Hat Tim.

Re: The "Ground Zero Mosque"

Sorry guys I just saw this thread.

To compare your case with the Muslim Mosque, I am going to give you the other way around: The Christian Church in a Muslim country (Qatar).

Even though the Emir donated the land for constructing the Church (a good gesture I suppose), he put restrictions on four things mainly:

- No CROSS apparent on top of the Church so that it looks like any other building, or a mosque without the Muslim "moon" on it.

- No BELL to be installed on top of the Church, WHATSOEVER!

- The Church will be located in a far... far away area (so that people cannot reach it easily)...

- ONE Church is to exist in Qatar.

The same restrictions are also for UAE, Bahrain, Kuwait, Oman. In Saudi Arabia and Yemen, no CHURCHES/CROSSES are allowed... Sunnis are more fanatic against Christians I suppose... In Iran, they are entitled to build up as many Churches as people desire, they have around 300 and counting...

I supposed I gave you ideas on what to protest against concerning this mosque...

Danny-

One of the founding principles of the United States is the freedom to practice whatever religion or beliefs you have. This is supposed to be fairly universal. In my opinion, it's one of the many things that makes this country a great place to live.

It's interesting to hear how these situations are treated in other countries. I'm just not really sure that it has an application in this situation.

Sure, you can practice it whatever religion you want. But there is nothing in the constitution that would prohibit a mayor, governor, builder from saying "you cannot build a mosque right here". Pretty sure if a Satanist was to massacre chickens in the middle of time square, people would have something to say about it. It must also be remembered that most americans are racist, or discriminate based on religion. I just hope nobody gets hurt because of this.

Re: The "Ground Zero Mosque"

Let us never forget that most of the high ranking Nazis thought of themselves as Christians. Most of us today would argue that the Nazis were certainly not following the tenets of Christianity. Most of the people on this earth that follow the religion of Islam would not support terrorists.

I say let the mosque in lower Manhattan be built. It is still 2 1/2 blocks from ground zero and does not sit on 'sacred' ground.

@Mike, this I already know and understand.
@Mike and Larry, let us revisit your replies when you start waking up at 4.45am at the sounds of the Mosques (while announcing out loud for the prayer time).

I am not against building mosques either, but the "horns" 5 times per day, of which one of them is early in the morning is not something I long for...

Re: The "Ground Zero Mosque"

Talk all day long about rights and such, and you still come down to the same thing - a bad idea is a bad idea, and it doesn't have to be a good reason.

Surely, out of EIGHT MILLION PEOPLE, you can come up with a few like <these>... and worse. Some number of people will be unjustifiably angry and stupid enough to take action upon that feeling.

I'm hardly saying that it's correct, but if those establishing the mosque are willing to accept any actions taken against the building or its leaders or worshippers, let 'er rip.
