power light in a 96?

the power light in my 96 LSi has never turned on while driving and it doesn't light up when i start the car. i've even replaced the bulb.

i think i read a post in here a while ago that 96's don't have a working power light. 96 owners, is this true?

Hmm... the '96 has no power light.... 'jus the one in yer head.

but there's a spot for one with a light bulb behind it. just wanted to make sure it wasn't supposed to work. because if it was, i should have seen it many times by now

I have owned this 1993 25th SVX since November 2002. Can't say that I have ever seen light come on under hard accelaration. Light bulb checks out, but still no indication. Checked owners manual, only to learn that when SVX is placed in hard accelaration, that ldash light should come on.

So, what's up with this? Any ideas on what to check next, i.e. circuitry, transmission sensor, etc.?

Any positive/productive answers would be most appreciated.

If you are completely unable to get power mode (should be easy if you are driving at any speed by letting off the gas immediately followed by mashing the pedal to the floor) then it could possibly be the TPS is either bad or needs adjustment. Power won't illuminate in MANU mode.
