Re: help: power steering whine

The P/S pump is very easy to maintain/overhaul. If it was me, I would remove it entirely from the engine, buy a rebuilt kit for it, take it out and overhaul everything.

I have done it once few (a lot actually) years ago and I am looking to redo it again in the future. I will also use THIS ATF inside

Re: help: power steering whine

Why do you say not the belt? I fought with mine for a year. Belt looked great, belt was tight. Finally I bought new belts and replaced them and what a difference. Unless the belts are new. Don't just go by they are tight and not cracked. Just my 2 cents.

Re: help: power steering whine

Belts squeak/squeal, not whine. They are two distinct different sounds.

O ring is the only place where air can get sucked into the pump, Any hose is after the pump so any air that may get in would not make it to the pump.

Re: help: power steering whine

Now that you contaminated the system, u are going to have to bleed the system. Change out as much fluid as you can . Some of that Power Steering fluid is in the rack and hoses.
