3.3 vs. 3.6 Exhaust Manifold Gaskets

Has anyone ever compared the two?

The EZ30 and EZ36 are tiny in comparison to the EG33 and nothing would be compatible. Why are you asking? It's not like the stock gaskets are expensive.

There are a lot more options for 3.6 headers.

Re: 3.3 vs. 3.6 Exhaust Manifold Gaskets

wondering how hard it would be to have an exhaust custom built back from the outback headers, they look like they would have the best flow.

Re: 3.3 vs. 3.6 Exhaust Manifold Gaskets

It would definitely be doable. Both YT and OT (TomsSVX and svxfiles) have built equal length headers for their cars. My goal would be to make it a direct replacement for the OEM manifolds though, so people would have the option of replacing their exhaust in whatever stages they wanted. Long tube headers would require people to also replace the rest of the exhaust.

Problem is, unless you do long tube headers, there are minimal, if any, gains to be had.

Re: 3.3 vs. 3.6 Exhaust Manifold Gaskets

True enough, not much advantage without changing the flow. Still for myself the bling factor, weight reduction, and fun of making them would be enough.

Re: 3.3 vs. 3.6 Exhaust Manifold Gaskets

if there is little to no benefit why are there claims of 20hp from a highflow cat, resonator, and muffler upgrade?

Show me a dyno sheet... Claims are just that...

Also, we were talking about the possibility of headers.... That has nothing to do with anything you mention.

Edit: Also, due to the IRIS intake of the EG33, while you may increase hp at certain ranges, it needs the exhaust to be just right or you will lose a LOT of low end torque.

Re: 3.3 vs. 3.6 Exhaust Manifold Gaskets

There is always a trade off with so called BHP increases from exhaust systems, other factors are effected like torque, heat, fueling, noise and when the power and torque is available in the rev band.

Manufacturers and after market exhaust companies spend hundreds of hours and thousands of pounds/dollars on R&D to design a system for a specific purpose.

I have yet to find anyone who has managed to build a properly balanced system with off the shelf cut and chopped parts in their garage or driveway. An exhaust system alone is not going to make any noticeable difference when you drive the car. As for weight...it's an SVX, enough said really!
If you want a loud exhaust on an SVX maybe you should be looking at buying a civic or skyline? Or as you are lucky enough to have lovely V8's you are spoilt for choice on the decibel front.

Just saying :-)
