A/c functions

I don't remember how the system works but with heater set at75 and ambient air is 50, only the floor vents blow hot air. I but the system to vent and the dash vents blow ambient air. Is this normal to have heater running and only Floor vents working and no dash vents?

Re: A/c functions

Set to AUTO, "normal" for mine is hot air out the floor vents with just a wisp of same from the dash vents and defrost outlets. I think primary heating is always from down low.

Re: A/c functions

Correct. Heat on feet, AC and vent out top vent and Def out the windshield. I do not know how to fool it.

Re: A/c functions

Heat comes out mainly on the floor, I feel it out the defroster vents too if I put my hand to them.
Heat rises, I guess they figured it get to your head eventually.

Re: A/c functions

It's designed for the heat only to come from the floor vents. Any air that gets through the vents or the defrosters is just from the little spongy seals of the flaps that control the air flow getting old and falling apart. There is a trick to force the upper vents to always stay open, if you search.

And this is not such a bad idea when you consider it. Local temperatures go from 30 celc in summer to -30 in winter. It's -15 right now.

Getting a spray of cold air in your face is great when you're hot.

Getting scorched with warm air in your face when you're cold is not!

Cheers.

Re: A/c functions

Admittedly, when I crank up the heat (esp on AUTO), the windscreen outlets push out a lot of air.

All car organisations here always stress how cars bought and imported from the continent are not truly localized. Evidently, Norwegian/Nordic cars have extra heating capabilites due to winter conditions.

Is it still a rotten seal on my windshield outlet or could it possibly be a true feature? Even in -15 my car is very cozy as soon as the engine has reached it's operational temperature, usually within 5 minutes of normal driving on 1500->2200 RPM.

No it's not, but my feet are ROASTING.

And it would be nice to have some heat out the vents for my FREEZING HANDS.

Of course with this balmy weather here lately it's not a problem at all right now (damn you Al Gore)

Intended or not, haviing hot air come out of the windscreen outlets helps. It's my experience that the car goes from extremely cold to very comfortable within short time, maybe 4-5 minutes in 60 km/h (by which time the engine has reached op temp.) I can try to measure this more properly next morning I drive.
