Question timing belt replacement

My '92 has never had a timing belt change and now has about 103K miles...went to a subaru dealer for the free inspection and told that oil seals leaking and need to replace timing belt....seems logical....worried that when they/or the guy I use opens it up that new piston, rollers, etc. needed...any comments/suggestions/referrals to a mechanic close to Stamford, CT??? Love my Subie!!

Re: timing belt replacement

It`s a fairly routine thing at this age to replace the timing belt, water pump, and all the seals on the front of the motor in a single job. A lot of us have used the timing belt kits on Ebay which come with new belt pulleys. For the water pump, stick to an OEM Subaru one. Reseal kits are available at subaruparts.com and come with almost every seal and O-Ring in the engine.

Re: timing belt replacement

Thanks for input.....See a couple of timing belt, roller, tensioner, water pump combos on ebay- aftermarket stuff- Will they do the trick? Any opinions? I can probably order them and have my guy do the install...but he won't warranty them if he didn't get them for me....Thanks, MK

Re: timing belt replacement

I used one of these timing belts, however I ordered one without the pump and used an OEM Subaru one. The Prestone and other aftermarket pumps aren't really up to par with the factory parts. I had the timing covers off my car this summer, a year and 10,000 miles after doing the work and the timing lines are still easily visible on the belt.

Good people and they have good brake pads as well.
