Reseal as per Nate's suggestion.

Re: Clanking from the Right Bank of Cylinders

In addition to a reseal I'd go ahead and change stuff that's normally hard to reach: PCV valve, vacuum lines and little hoses under the intake, etc.

Re: Clanking from the Right Bank of Cylinders

Naturally, this would probably be the time to change cams if I'm going to do it. I've been reading about my options, which seem very varied but not completely clear.

Re: Clanking from the Right Bank of Cylinders

Delays, delays, the brink of carpal tunnel, delays, DONE.

It turns out that most of the work in an engine swap is getting past the intimidation of the task, for a first timer.

New stuff, besides seals, hoses, and other assorted this 'n' thats:
* Clutchmasters FX100 clutch (which is a lot firmer than whatever was in there)
* ACT Streetlite flywheel (doesn't seem to have an adverse effect so far)
* Group N engine and trans mounts (which transfer in a good share of noise, for those trying to dodge that)
* Phenolic spacers
* Uber cheese red krinkle paint on the gasket-matched intake manifold. There's no excuse for this.
* NGK plugs... the ones everybody loves here. Can't remember now.

After having the car in the air for so long, it blew me away when I took it off the ramps and re-realized how low it is! It's also quite different than my new-to-me Forester (shown above).

Unfair to post like this without pics... Here's a most-of-the-way-done shot:

Not many miles on yet, and I'm still trying to get the clutch engagement at the height I like, but it's good to be driving the thing again!

Re: Clanking from the Right Bank of Cylinders

I know this is an old thread now. That noise ended up as a spun rod bearing on mine. You all are gonna hate me for this but until I can home to my wrecked one to swap the spare motor out of that I pulled the oil pan and changed the one bearing that had spun. It's lasted so far but there's a little rattle still on start-up and hard accel. I'm sure there's other bearings that are worn too, just maybe they haven't spun yet. I use real heavy weight oil and hope it lasts for a couple more months.
