codes...WOW!!! ATF temp sensor?

ok so my car acted up on me today... it kept stalling out, first it started stalling when it was shifting into 2ed than when i would stop, than it stalled when i was crusing about 60 down the road, i think it is because like i said before with my TC not locking out. does anyone know how to do an ATF temp sensor? i know you have to drop the tranny pan and t is on the valve body but where?
and i ran codes today and i got alot of them!!
i got 23,32,31,11,37,33,34... i dont think this can be good...

Re: codes...WOW!!! ATF temp sensor?

I would check your wiring, that seems like alot of malfunctions to just pop up.

Re: codes...WOW!!! ATF temp sensor?

You should probably check the harness at the ECU and make sure its on there.... check your grounds at the battery and engine bay too. Unplug your battery for at least an hour to clear any and all codes, then drive and recheck codes. For that many codes to come up, it seems like a junction electrical issue or bad ECU.

Re: codes...WOW!!! ATF temp sensor?

I would say almost definitely some loose wiring looms. Disconnect and reconnect all of them

Re: codes...WOW!!! ATF temp sensor?

Thier probably old stored codes, just reset the ECU and check for codes again.

By "locking out" do you mean locking-up, or engaging properly? Do you some sort of auxiliary ATF cooler installed? The torque converter won't lock properly if the fluid never reaches operating temperature.

Re: codes...WOW!!! ATF temp sensor?

ok so i found out today it does go into overdrive.....going down the road reving between 3-4K it will like bog and buck all around..i just got done with my rear diff. so it is AWD again finally!!! my speed sensor broke so i bought one from tom and put it in and the speedo. dont work i dont know if this could be part of the problem or not, eventhough it did it(bucking) with the old sensor in too. i put the FWD fuse in it today and it wouldent shift out of first, so this could be something as well???
anyone know where i can start?

Re: codes...WOW!!! ATF temp sensor?

The TCU will use the rear speed sensor in place of the main sensor mounted to the front diff in the event of failure of the main unit, but It will not operate the speedometer, and, quite honestly, I have no idea how the transmission would act with that sensor failed. As a first step in diagnosis you need to replace that sensor and start with a system that is free of codes. The torque converter lockup is controlled by a solenoid and that particular solenoid is vulnerable to debris accumulation due to failed components internally. Before I rebuilt my transmission for the first time, my torque converter would violently shudder when it was signaled to unlock at times, the whole car would buck and shake. This is a symptom of the torque converter clutch material coming off, either directly by the clutch being damaged or by filling the transmission with the flaked off clutch material. When I rebuilt mine, I used a torque converter from a later model and cleaned the system thoroughly.

I would first resolve your speed sensor code and then see if your problem still exists. If it does, I would either replace or have your converter rebuilt. Level ten offers this service, among others, that will give a performance boost.

Also, the transmission will not shift out of 1st without a speed sensor if memory serves, and since the speed sensor you have working is the unit that measures the rear output shaft speed, I would hypothesize that it is disabled by inserting the forced FWD fuse.

Re: codes...WOW!!! ATF temp sensor?

Yes my money is on the converter.

That is a guess made in the dark based on my experience.. but I can't form an accurate diagnosis without driving the car. If there is a problem with the TCC circuit, you've basically got the following components invovled: the lockup clutch, duty solenoid B, and the TCU. If your car is a 92 you need to make sure you have either a new radiator or the radiator trans cooler is bypassed, as the earlier ones have a screen that likes to collect the clutch material from the converter.

Every 92 model that still runs on the original converter needs to have the converter either rebuit or replaced and the radiator either replaced or bypassed. This is the repair Subaru should have performed instead of the filter IMHO

my cruse control does not work either..is this another sign leading to the converter?

Re: codes...WOW!!! ATF temp sensor?

Your cruise won't work without the speed sensor. And yea the converter rarely locks below about 55 or so.

Re: codes...WOW!!! ATF temp sensor?

well i took codes again today and im getting alot less than what i was....
23-Air Flow Meter or Circuit (have no idea???)
31-Throttle Position Sensor or Circuit (which might be why im having these problems?)
33-Vehicle Speed Sensor (VSS) or Circuit (because the gears inside the front diff is broke)
34-EGR Solenoid or Circuit (have no idea???)

ALOT BETTER THAN THE 7 I WAS GETTING B4
