starting problem

ok when i turn the key i get a click then i turn the key back and then forward to start a again same thing it does start after a few repeats. now i put in a new starter, starter solinoid switch, and the battery is a year old its an optimum red top i also check voltage to the starter which gives a good reading. someone talk to me give me the cure. this i driving me insane. i also ground the battery in 50 places so to speak. is there a fuse for the starter inturupt for the security which i might add is not working and if you no where the fuse for the remote door lock is tell me cause thats not workin either

Re: starting problem

Double and triple check the main wire to the starter motor..... its the thick cable connected directly to the positive battery post. That connection has to be clean and have no corrosion. Voltage at the starter means nothing its the amperage which matters when cranking. It sounds like the starter is getting the relay signal since it clicks when you turn the key, it really sounds like the starter either has a bad main connection, or maybe you got a bad starter.

Re: starting problem

I had the same problem for years, changed alt, batt, and starter, I also secured grounds. The problem still exists until I changed my ignition switch and problem was abated. I got the hot tip from a search on the network for "ignition switch" and all is well.

Re: starting problem

I have that problem when my car is warm sometimes it will start sometimes it won't and it doesn't at the most inconvenient times. It was really bad before I replaced my MAF, car would stall while driving on the highway and would take forever to start back up. It clicks the lights dim but the starter doesn't turn over. It hadn't done it for awhile I figured maybe the problem corrected itself, but then yesterday when I drove it up to Providence,RI it started doing it again. No matter how many times I tried it just clicked. I ended up grabbing some speaker wire from the trunk and touching one end to the starter solenoid that connects to the ignition and the other end to the + of the battery and it started right up. It doesn't do it often enough for me to think about hooking up an extra relay. Today I routed some wire from the ignition switch end and the positive from the starter inside the car and installed a starter switch for those times it doesn't feel like starting. Any foreseeable problems with doing that?

By "starter switch" do you mean the solenoid attached to the starter, or the ignition switch which has a start position. If you have not renewed the latter, experience recorded here, indicates that the ignition switch is likely to be faulty.

To prove the point - when the fault is apparent, connect a jumper wire from the battery to the small terminal on the solenoid for a second or two, so as to provide a direct circuit. If the starter operates correctly, the ignition switch has been proven faulty, or there is resistance in the starter switch circuit..

Not really!

I had a setup like that till I decided to work out that Bosch relay thing. Mine has started at least 2-3 thousand times since the relay came into my life and never falters.

Seems to start easier than it ever did... However, "I pray a lot"

You should be good with what you are doing.
