Help with another Subaru...

I have a 95 Impreza with the 1.8L engine. It runs great, and I have had zero problems with it until the last couple days. I am hoping someone here has some advice.

The specifics:

car has about 105K miles on it

until very recently, it would always start on the first crank, every time

after sitting for a few hours, it still starts right up, no problem

after running for a little while, stopping and restarting the car results in the engine turning over, but not starting. Almost as if it is not getting fuel. Give it a little gas while it's cranking, and it will start right up

It has been very hot the last few days.

Any ideas?

Thanks
Mike

Sounds like a weak battery to me, I've had cars, and just a couple weeks ago my streetbike do the same thing, a new battery fixed them.
Hope this is the cure you need as it's not to expensive.

Well, compared to the SVX, NOTHING is expensive on this little car. I'm actually secretly hoping the engine will blow up (I know, it won't) so I have a good excuse to swap in something with a little more juice. It looks to me like swapping in a 2.2 or even a 2.5 will be relatively straightforward... and this is a front wheel drive stripper, so it is pretty damn light. (I guess you knew that, though, seeing as you have a nearly identical car)

But back to the subject. The battery certainly feels strong. I'll test it to make sure, but the starter seems to be cranking like a champ. It really just acts as if it is not getting any fuel until I crack the throttle a little.

Thanks for your help. I'll check out the battery and let you know what I find out.

Yeah my little Impreza L is a 2 door FWD, I've been considering turning it into a rally car to run in the stock front wheel drive class.
Have you seen Subigal's little 1.8 demon? check out www.subiegal.com she's running one out on the west coast and is 2nd or 3rd in her class.
Looks like it'd be a blast

Back to your car, it could be a weak fuel pump, but I still think it's probably the battery, once it gets hot a weak battery will put out less amps than it does when it's cold.

MY L has 134k on it but still starts right up, I don't think you can break those little engines

Hopefully it's something simple, keep me posted,
