C&D STi, EVO, & R32 Shootout
The EVO walked away from the other 2, with the VW topping the Subie. The Subaru is sure the ugliest of the 3, and wins that part hands down.

track test? from all i've read, the STi is faster than the EVO in a straight line, but the EVO will come out ahead on the track due to better handling, unless there's a bunch of long straights, which might give the advantage to the STi. it would be easier to add power to the EVO, than add handling to the STi, so the EVO would be my pick when i start looking for a new car. the STi is butt-ugly, so that makes the decision easier, too. don't know much about the new VW, but i would never even consider buying one.

It was a full out shoot out. Here are the results:
0-60: EVO - 4.6 STI - 5.0 R32 - 5.4 1/4: EVO - 13.4 STI - 13.5 R32 - 14.2 70-0 Braking: STI - 153 EVO - 161 R32 - 175 Skidpad: EVO - .97 STI - .89 R32 - .89 Lane Change: EVO - 64.9 STI - 64.5 R32 - 61.3 Curb Weight: STI - 3366 R32 - 3552 EVO - 3558 Price/as tested: EVO - $33,615/33,615 R32 - $33,630/35,430 STI - $35,640/37,440 The R32 looks like it should have been 3rd, but the EVO clearly out performs the STI, while being cheaper and far better looking. The only catagory the STI ran away with was interior. |

Thats strange
I don't know which track C&D did their test on but in JDM tests the 2008 STi stomped both auto and manual EVO Xs on the track as well as drag strip.
Track: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-HSVUK6y0m4 Drag and Slalom: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sEXaaxSU4SM I sense like past C&D Subaru vs Mitsu comparisons the STi was stuck with the Bridgestone all season while the EVO had its Yokohama summer tires. |

someone here at work just traded in a VW r32 for an STI. the r32's have 6 speed tranny's, all black leather interiors w/ racing seats heated. they are very nice but i would take the sti.

from your link: "These tires are not intended to be driven in snow." they are summer tires, not all-seasons. the EVO X tires must also be "all-seasons", based on your criteria .... http://www.tirerack.com/tires/tires....el=ADVAN+Sport Quote:

[QUOTE=Weebitob;524265]I know the engine the 2008 North American STi is the same 2.5l from last, it still uses the same twin-scroll turbo as in every other market.
Nope. They change the decking to that of the Legacy GT. And while bacily the same(same block and internals) it's more powerfull. 308 at the crank vs. 280 I think is what last years was set at. No twin scroll but that can be changed. Plus the STi as priced is was better than the EVO. EVO at 33K is base as an 07' WRX and has the 5 speed. The only thing I like in the new EVO is the tiptronic 6. R32 is sweet and for only being around 3 years it's pretty well built. USDM STi is also faster than the JDM 2.0 beleive it or not. JDM gets the nice seats though. I like the now STi and would take it over any Mistsubishi anyday. It may not look as agressive as the EVO stock but at least people don't reffer to is as a cat fish. Base EVO is stripped out and still heavier than the STi and way out classed by the STi and R32. Though I do like a good Impreza wagon so I might be biast. -Gaddis

All seasons are so called because they were designed to compromise between summer and winter conditions. It has nothing to do with the how noisy the tire is. The quietest tire design I can think of is a racing slick, because there are no tread blocks to contact the ground and make irregularities which will make noise. Now if someone goes and tells me that a racing slick is an all season tire, I'm going to be trying very hard not to hit them.

add tax, title and plate fees, and you're over $40,000 for the STi.
i'll take the better braking, handling, SMG transmission, Recaro seats, and better sound system of the EVO X. i would have the bumper beam under the EVO's grille painted to match the body so it doesn't look like a gaping catfish, though.

BBS wheels and sat nav are standard in Canada. MSRP is ~46K I think. I was in the dealership last week looking at one (only for fun) The EVO X lists at over 50K for the MR Premium or whatever the top version is called.

STI - 153 (I presume this is a measurement of feet) EVO - 161 R32 - 175 And lol, no sales tax in my town. Just buy it here, if there's any left. You could fly here, buy it, fly back and have them ship it to you for less than the tax you'll pay.

i remember reading in another test that the EVO won the braking. probably just depends on who's driving it - they are both pretty close i guess. i pay my taxes to support my local SWAT teams.
