Door Light Help

My driver side door light does not turn on when i open my door. But it does function when i do open the passenger door or lock it. (we now know there is power)

can somebody poit out to me where the sensor for the light is? My dash sees the door open but the light is still off? I took off my door panel and this is what happened.

Thanks

The switch is within the door and is operated by the door striker in conjuction with the lock mechanism. Switching is not direct and is via the time delay unit. As you have dash indication, the switch must be OK.

It could be that you may have messed up some wiring when you had the door panel off. This would appear obvious.

The sensor is inside the door lock mechanism. But if the dash shows the door open then it must be working.

Have you checked the "door" button on the ceiling console?

Two great minds thinking at the same time can not be wrong. What say Phil ?

I don't think it would be the ceiling swtch because I gather all works OK via the left door. However worth a try. They that design car electrics are a wierd lot.

Cheers Phil and another opportunity to thank you. Trevor.

It will have you stumped only after you have again retraced what you may have done and have removed the door panel. Why did you remove the panel? What did you do in respect of the internals? What could you have upset?

There most certainly is wiring and connectors involved. I am not sure as to the exact nature of the switch/sensor, it could comprise read switch. Phil may have had physical contact with the animal. But is that detail relative?

Best of luck, Trevor.

Just to clarify;
Drivers door open and Pass door closed = Drivers door light off
Drivers door closed and pass door open = Drivers door light on
Both doors closed and overhead switch on = Drivers door light on
Both doors open = ???

I had my door apart last night so I had a look at the latch switch. The connector is the one that is visible when you look at the back of the latch through the hole in the door. It is a three pin plug (closed, common, open) but only the common and open pins are connected on my car. The plug can be a difficult to disconnect in the confined space of the door. You have to lift a little plastic tab to release it.

My advice is to check the connector. It that seems fine, unplug it and jumper it with a piece of wire. If the light comes on then the switch could be faulty. If not then there is likely a problem somewhere upstream towards the controller.

Phil.
