it would snap and pop for a bit whenever the furnace started up. its probably like 16 years old. i cleaned it and checked it several times, but it always did it.

i wasn't going crazy with an expensive filter system - we'll probably be selling the house in a year or so.

i'll check out the options for the next house, but i may stick with this method, as the annual replacement is kinda nice. here's the filter they used: http://www.aprilaire.com/category.as...722CD120E8C7F6

Also no tag or ins, but if I was so inclined, tag cost 2.50$ per year, and a 25% reduction on a 'farm' vehicle would allow me to drive the battered subi to market!!

If the seasons never changed, I would become bored, and have to search new forms of entertainment.

[QUOTE=Landshark]the PU truck cost/maintenance/insurance/registration is not exactly cheap.

our highest gas bill was $190, and that is only for the few coldest months.

15 hours overtime / month at work more than pays for the gas bill.

not really worth it for me. besides, i kinda have a fear of leaving fires burning unattended while i sleep, because an old roommate nearly burned our rented house down one time.

The key is to have a NAME BRAND woodburner, and install it to the recommended spec's.. I sleep well, but have a problem with an 'overnite' stay somewhere else, because someone has to keep the fires burning.
I need a 'back-up' heat source, for the wood, cause I'm not really able to travel freely in the super-cold months.
I have an additional problem, cause my Mother-in-law lives with us, and she is suffering the effects of Alzhiemers, and can't be left alone anyway. I just have to make sure that the 'sitter' we hire for mom can DO woodburners.

Fortunately, I have a REDNECK daughter, that has woodburner experience, AND care for old people experience, that will stay with her, and only go home to fix HER wood fire!!

Apples don't fall far from the tree!!

If I had a V-12 jag, it would be installed in a 46 Dodge pick up, and a turbo hooked up so the smoke would never clear when the truck was running!!~
I will NEVER put anything but a 440 in the truck in the pic!!!

My parents heat their house in NY primarily with wood. I grew up splitting and stacking 10-15 face cords a year on top of the reserves from last years to fuel a Vermont Castings Vigilant stove.
There is just something very peaceful about coming in from the cold and sitting in front if the stove. Dries boots and gloves very fast too.
Just clean the chimney regularly and don't do anything stupid and you shouldn't have any chimney fire worries.

No need for it down here though.

I'm actually wanting to drop a 6.0L from a '94-'95 in a 1966 Chevelle but I believe Jag had a tiny V12 in the early '80s that is too small to worry about using in another car, that's what I'm looking for
