Nope. It's a tiny little thing... I've seen his Porsche 944 oil filter in person at his shop. It's awesome.

Purlator has a standard grade filter, and then the Pure One. Do you know Subaru OEM oil filters are Pure One?

if its like the LGT, its fun to change - hot exhaust right next to it. i think that's why they made them so tiny.

I don't. I just saw on the box of one of my SVX filters that they were manufactured by Purolator for Subaru.

With my SVX, I always used the blue Purolator Pure One if I didn't have an OE filter available. I was planning on doing the same with my WRX.

Is it a tiny little black oil filter? If so then yes, it's one and the same. Right next to the new for '06 equal length headers. The former boxer-4 rumble is now gone. No more blub-blub-blub-blub at idle!

Hi Chike,
Late getting on the thread - but CONGRATS on the new WRX!! Really looks sharp too! Love that color. I hope we'll be at some autocrosses this season.

BTW (pay attention, Bill!), the Mercedes autocross schedule is the following:

AX1 April 23
AX2 May 28
MB-only DD/AX school June 4
AX3 June 25
AX4 July 23
AX5 August 13
AX6 September 10
AX7 October 1
AX8 November 5

All will be at the Millbrook High School in Winchester as in the past. Hope to see you there.

Again, great looking ride!! If you are up this way, please stop by to say hello.
Harry

Some things to ponder

Hi everyone, Since my friend the service mgn. at AASubaru left after 21 years to open his own place, I've had my Subarus serviced at his place,. He uses Subaru OEM oil filters. When SOA recalled a batch of bad oil filters (They have done this twice) it was reported in the automotive press that the filters were made by Wix. Go figure. Well thats about all I can tell you about Subarus and oil filters. On oil, I have always changed oil and filter at 1,000 miles. and started synthetic at the three thousand mile mark. I think, without tearing down the engine, that modern engines can be considered "broken in" after three thousand miles. Take care< BOBB
P/S Hey Chike, Take all the well meaning advice and then do what you think is best. Remember, ENJOY. "B"

Thanks Harry. My local SCCA chapter has 12 point events scheduled for '06 and I'll have to see what other meets I can make it to. As of right now, I definitely will attend the Subaru Challenge event and I'll see what others my wife's budget will allow me to take part in...

that's the one - there were some bad ones made, and they changed it, so do a search to see which ones are the good ones (i forget) if you buy a bunch at the dealer for future oil changes.

I heard about the bad ones, but they've all been pulled from the dealers. I bought two at the Subaru dealer when I purchased my car Saturday morning. No problems with leaks after the oil change (but damn was that factory oil filter hard to remove! ). Thanks.

Congrats on your new car, Chike! I like that color. May I have few pictures with your car on Saturday?

Your new car pick-up thread has also become an oil change discussion thread.

If that's my car, I will refer to the owner's manual and do my own research and believe in myself. If I have my MB or Porsche, I ain't worrying to have my oil change for every 10K or more. Those things even have the computer to detect the oil quality and tell you when to do the oil change.

Our avatars aren't that close. Mine's the one with the Hawkeye headlights and the bigger hood scoop!

I don't mind the tail lights. I'll leave them as is for '06 and maybe around Xmas pick up a set of tails from an '04-'05 WRX/STI. I'm currently looking to get the heavy duty Impreza rubber mats, and a high flow panel filter. After that, I'll try to nab an axle-back muffler from an STI (1/4" larger and freer flowing muffler). I may also add one of those underbody diffusers from the '06 STI - they only cost around $60.
