Noises

My SVX has developed a odd sort of whirring sound. It is only audible above about 25 mph, and increases in frequency as speed increases, leading me to think its something in the driveline. I also only really hear it under power. Keep in mind that my car is FWD and still on the original tranny at 82K miles. Is something on its way out?

Sounds like your diff may be starting to fail. Same thing happened in m old FWD. Keep your eyes and ears open.

Agreed. Do you know if your front diff is leaking any gear oil? When was the last time you checked the fluid level in the front diff?

If you haven't changed the front diff oil in a while, purchase two quarts of Lucas high performance heavy duty 80W 90 gear oil (available from Advance Auto Parts for ~$5.50/qt). Drain your old diff oil and replace with new (the factory service manual says the 4EAT holds 1.2qts in the front diff).

If the noise doesn't go away, it may be too late to save the diff...

I'm not sure Chike, but I'll get under the car today and take a look. Thanks for the suggestions. I don't want my front diff to die, but this may make a good excuse to get a 5-speed installed .

5-Spd install... , the same thing happened to me and thought of doing 5-spd, but no time to spend on it so i went with 4.44's.
