Et tu, Mr. Ustinov?
I hadn't thought about Peter Ustinov for probably 15 or so years. I thought he was dead. Now he is. His obit brought back my memories of him. He was my favorite Roman in Quo Vadis & Spartacus. Anytime he showed up on a talk show, The Tonight Show, Hollywood squares, and others I've forgotten; his wit & semi-aristocratic yet self- deprecating style always held my interest. An ignorant man on the Rob bell curve, having dropped out of high school, he was fluent in 6 languages, & acted in, directed or produced around 100 films. He was knighted in 1990. I always thought he'd be the ideal companion on a cross county bus trip. Always a mischievous twinkle lurking somewhere in his psyche. Sorry I forget about you Mr. U, but I hear you wrote an autobiograpical memoir in '77 called "Dear Me". I'll have to read it, & thanks for stopping by long enough for some of us to appreciate your boundless talents.
Ron.

Me to Ron,
His is the voice on the Discovery Wings channel for all of the "Wings of the Red Star" episodes. I too lament the passing of yet one more of the great icons of my youth.

Sir Peter
1978. London. Heading to work down Baker St. I was working my way through a small group of people when I heard a voice....it sounded so familiar...yet....I turned to see the man say goodby to someone and get into a cab. I turned to the man who had been speaking with him and asked..."Was that...?"
"Peter Unsinov? Yes, indeed!" Cool! Don PS I have enjoyed listening to him narrate on the Discovery Wings channel too! I would love to hear that "Grand Prix" recording...I've heard it is a classic.

Thank you, Rob. I was making jest, & I know that YOU know that to be the case. Sir Peter now wonders why these two morons are debating his credentials. Ron.

Hrm. Might I suggest a book that reminds me of him? The Great Train Robbery, by Michael Crichton.
