(sure it's plugged in good?) Try looking down the hole that the speed sensor threads into?

Edit - another idea: Maybe the sensor didn't get threaded in far enough for the little spinny thing at the bottom to fit into its slot?
I finally had some time to work on the SVX, I've just been so busy with school and Athletic events. Anyway I looked into the hole where the sensor threads into and was able to see the slit in which the metal part "T" of the sensor fits into. I talked to BUDFREAK from Subaru SVX World Forums svxworldforums.com and he told me to use a flat head screwdriver and try to turn the piece and if it turned I was screwed... WELL, It didn't spin in either direction so that should mean its not the plastic gears or driven shaft. I then proceeded to examine the wiring and there actually is some visual damage to it. I will add a picture. It is just so close to the harness that I really can't splice it. Going to contact Subaru of Sioux Falls to see if they have it. I am really hoping that this will solve the problem. I will also add a picture of what the OLD sensor and the NEW sensor look like side by side.

Re: Engine Codes 29 and 33. Help!!!

Picture of wiring loom looks like someone spliced something across the wire - hence piece of solder still showing... wonder what instrument / meter could go there?

There is actually no solder on the wire, that is just some reflection of the broken plastic covering the wire. I had another picture which was better but it was too big of a file to upload :/

What I have recently discovered is that many connectors can be gotten here and a few other places online, and you can just make a new connector that's fresh and reliable instead of trying to work with an old one.

Post a pic of the connector from the plug side and I'll see whether I can find one that matches if you can't.

Am I missing something, or is the old sensor missing the drive tang?

Re: Engine Codes 29 and 33. Help!!!

He said before that it was broken. The wiring seems to be a separate issue. Probably when he changed it, the cracked brittle or already damaged wire lost continuity.

WOW! I had been looking for a website like this for a while. Thank you so much! I believe I found the right match http://www.bmotorsports.com/shop/pro...oducts_id/2175. I would add a picture of the actual plug but I don't have one on my phone and the car is in the shop which is 1hr away.

Harvey.
Harvey,

Yes the old sensor was missing the drive tang when I pulled it out. Don't worry I was able to recover the metal "T" and the plastic and metal ring that held it in place. I bought a new OEM sensor which is still in one piece

Re: Engine Codes 29 and 33. Help!!!

That one does look very similar. Make sure it's keyed the same.

(For example these are 3 that are keyed differently from one another:

http://www.bmotorsports.com/shop/pro...oducts_id/1683

I hope it's the right one. Haha Looking very similar will have to suffice. The one I posted was the one and only that has the 3 pin with the 2 groves on the edges and the 1 grove in the bottom. Even if I'm wrong and I end up spending $30 it will be worth a try and still a lot cheaper than the $1,650 the dealer wants to charge me for a whole new wiring harness.

Re: Engine Codes 29 and 33. Help!!!

Oh, another thing. You want either the connector kit or the pigtail version. The one you linked doesn't have the actual metal terminals with it. So assuming that's the correct connector, you want one of these:

http://www.bmotorsports.com/shop/pro...oducts_id/2177

http://www.bmotorsports.com/shop/pro...oducts_id/2176

(Pigtail is probably what you want. The connector kits are great for making completely new harnesses, like I'm doing with my megasquirt ECU project.)

Yup you are correct! I had actually ordered the two that you just linked. Once again, Thanks for the help! As soon as I get a chance to work on the problem I will post updates

Re: Engine Codes 29 and 33. Help!!!

The pigtail connector I ordered didn't match the pins on the sensor. So I just soldered the wires on the old harness like you guys had mentioned. Vehicle still doing same things. I took the car in to a transmission specialist and they are going to let me know if anything comes up.

Re: Engine Codes 29 and 33. Help!!!

So the transmission specialist technically retraced through all my steps. The VSS2 and VSS1 were replaced. The wiring was checked and it was good. The only thing left to do is to go to the differential. I am just afraid to give it a green light and have that fixed and still have the same problem.

Any other ideas guys?

Thanks

Re: Engine Codes 29 and 33. Help!!!

I just realized I never updated the thread and I feel awful for it. It bugs me when I read a thread and 2 pages later notice the OP just stopped posting without a "fix" or "solution". So here is what happened.

Instead of spending money on "fixing" a time bomb (Stock diff/transmission) I just went ahead and decided to do the 4.44 swap. I cracked the old diff and transmission open just for "educational" purposes and neither myself nor the transmission specialist could find anything that was indicative of the failure.

With the 4.44 swap all of the issues went away, so something with the drivetrain was indeed bad, we just couldn't pinpoint the problem.

So almost one year later (~6,000 miles) the replacement 4.44 diffs and transmission are holding on.

I did have some electrical issues about 3 weeks ago. The TCU gave me codes 11,12, 13 and 25 all at once after the car sat for 2 days while I "dynamated" my car and sprayed undercoat protection. After some troubleshooting and going over wiring I discovered a fried not frayed ground wire. It's location is from the firewall to the pitch stop mount. I replaced ALL my grounds in the engine bay with Knuconceptz 4 AWG ground wire and the issues seem to be gone for the most part.

I say for the most part because only code 13 and 25 remain. I know that code 25 is caused the the QC kit I have installed, which leaves me with code 13. This code (13) is the only one that stuck around and by the looks of it I will just have to replace solenoid 3 which causes engine braking the moment I let off the gas. Good thing I never let off the gas!. Haha just joking
