Swapping seats around.

My SVX has leather seats and like most I imagine the drivers side seat is in much worse condition than passenger side.
That's certainly the case in my car.
I also dislike the electric seat and would prefer a manually operated seat.

I have spare parts cars with leather seats in the same colour and wonder how difficult it would be to fit a passenger seat into the drivers side ?

Has anyone tried this ?
I'm not keen on cutting/welding.
But I do have two other cars I can steal parts from.

My understanding from talking to other members is that you can dissemble seats, and simply swap the back and bottoms with the cushions intact.

Re: Swapping seats around.

If you want a manual seat get one from an L or LS model and switch your covers over.

Re: Swapping seats around.

I love my "suede" seats. They're still in perfect shape.

Re: Swapping seats around.

We didn't get L or LS models here. Every SVX I've seen has an electric drivers seat, both NZDM & JDM.

I'll have a crack at seat disassembly.

Re: Swapping seats around.

From watching Huck take apart one of the seats while at Reading, I saw there were a few places where you will need to clip some of hog rings to get at the screws holding the back to the seat.

Re: Swapping seats around.

Shane,

you should have been at last months Caffine & Classics - Katie had her blue SVX at the meeting (JDM).

It had the following -

Non-leather seats
No sunroof
No rear spoiler
No ABS
No cruise control

it made for an interesting morning, both Ewie & I found it really interesting to finally see the "cost-down" version that some others in the northern part of the world get.

Re: Swapping seats around.

How about the after market seats on ebay? Are they any good? Do they fit without any modifications?

Re: Swapping seats around.

Shane,

what about getting someone from USA to send you out the leather pieces from a wrecked one - you actually only need the passengers-side (in USA, which is the drivers side here in NZ).

There is a posting somewhere on how to take the covers off ....

Re: Swapping seats around.

Steve,
You've just described my first SVX.
It was 1992 JDM.
Sold it to a guy in Chch who has converted it to 5 speed manual.

After taking the power seat apart, the back frames won't interchange, but you can still use the Passenger side Leather on the Drivers side seats, just have to cut all the retaining "hog rings" and reattach in same manner onto the other frame....Doing this right now with the My Pace Car

Re: Swapping seats around.

+1 on photos.
My driver seat is awful and I have a spare passenger seat with great leather ready to swap over when I get around to it
