Code 21

Hey guys my car threw another code YAY. In the morning when it's cold I have to almost flood the car to get it started. Once started she runs fine. I searched here and found in a couple of threads that it should be an easy fix. Went to the parts store and bought a coolant temperature sensor and replaced. The next morning nothing changed, I barely got the car started. I tested the Ohms on the old one by cooling it off in the snow and heating it up over the stove. The resistance changed from 1,000 to 6,0000. Same numbers when I tested the new one.

So I guess I'm wondering where to go from here. Seems like it should have been a simple fix?

Thanks, Nickle and dimming seems all too real this year.

There are some things that you really have to buy from Subaru, and the water temperature sensor is one.
Did you replace the WTS that has one wire, or two?
The code CAN also be the result of a camshaft or crankshaft sensor, by the way.

Re: Code 21

Thanks svxfiles.

I replaced the sensor with two wires.

Would a cam sensor effect normal operation? I had one go out before and the car wouldn't run regardless of the temp. This time the car runs fine .....once I get it started of course, and only when it's cold.

I'm headed down to Subaru to pick up another car, maybe I will pick up one of their CTS as well.

Thanks for the tips,

Dust.
