Could this be another symptom to my running problem?

It is now colder.
I have been turning on the heater.
I smell a gas type odor.
Only when I turn the temp above 71.
When I open the fuel cap I do not get the pressure release hiss.
And it is a brand new oem cap.

What should I start looking for? If anything....

Re: Could this be another symptom to my running problem?

In the trunk, behind the back seats is a silver metal access panel to get through the floor to the top of the fuel tank to access the fuel pump. There are soft lines there between the hard steel lines and the fuel tank. When one of those goes bad if fills the car with the smell of fuel. Two of the hoses are high pressure fuel injection hose; the other is the hose for the vapor to go to the vapor canister. That is most likely the one that is bad but you aught to replace all 3.

Even if only brings the smell in cabin when heat is on?
Will this possibly be my running problem?
Do thes hoses run all the way up front?

Re: Could this be another symptom to my running problem?

Yea, there are 3 hoses that run from the fuel tank to the engine bay, through hard lines that run along the driver's side, under the door sill area. 1 is fuel pressure from the pump, 2 is fuel return, and the 3rd is a breather line that runs to the charcoal canister, where the fumes collect, until the purge solenoid opens, and the fumes are sucked into the intake to be burnt with the rest of the fuel. A break in that hose might cause vacuum leak type of symptoms. Look at the hose in the engine bay, and also under the back seat, under the access panel, as LAN suggested. There is one soft line that goes from the fuel tank to the hard line, one soft line that goes from the end of the hard line in the engine bay to another hard line at the intake manifold. IIRC, the vapor hose goes to the rearmost of the 3 hard lines at the intake manifold.

Re: Could this be another symptom to my running problem?

I replaced all the hoses in the back under the access panel.
No change... I still get the smell gas in the cabin in the morning.

ONLY does it in morning and I am almost certain it is from the AC/heat vents.

When I get in the car in the mornings it is not there until i turn on the heat... which I do immediately.

Re: Could this be another symptom to my running problem?

A gasoline leak under the hood would certainly be more pronounced with air being pulled in by the heater. Check the simple things first. I once had an awful gas smell at start-up that was caused by loose hose clamp at the fuel filter.

Would a leaky hose contribute to a "running problem"? Not likely.

Re: Could this be another symptom to my running problem?

I also had a gas smell and no hiss from the gas cap. The hard line between the tank to the gas filler neck was corroded. Had that piece replaced with a hose instead of a hard line. No more smell.

Danmarr did ur gas smell seem to be coming from vents?
Where would one get a fuel line of that size?

Re: Could this be another symptom to my running problem?

I don't remember if it was from the vents, but I was getting very sick driving because I was smelling gas. One thing I did notice was a small wet spot on the floor when it was parked. My mechanic had to drop the gas tank to replace the line. I don't know the size of the hose or where he got it from.
